11 Arrested, Weapons and Security Items Recovered in Kromase Operation Near Nkwanta
A joint military and Ghana Police team has arrested 11 persons and recovered a pump-action gun, live ammunition, body armour and other security-related items during an intelligence-led cordon and search operation at Kromase, near Nkwanta in the Oti Region.
The operation was led by the Combat Team Commander, Major Muktar Saani, and was conducted in the early hours of Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
The exercise formed part of Exercise STARLIGHT STRETCH III, an ongoing military operation designed to enhance the preparedness and operational capability of the Ghana Army to respond effectively to emerging security threats.
The operation involved personnel drawn from the Ghana Army and the Ghana Police Service.
Acting on intelligence received, the joint team conducted a cordon and search operation at selected premises in Kromase. Security personnel searched the identified locations as part of efforts to gather information and address potential security threats within the area.
The operation continued for several hours and ended at about 8:30 a.m.
During the search, the security team recovered several weapons and security-related items. Items recovered included: One pump-action gun, Live ammunition, Body armour, A locally made ammunition belt, and a police uniform
The recovery of the items formed part of the outcome of the intelligence-led operation, which brought together the capabilities of the military and police.
The 11 suspects arrested during the operation were subsequently escorted to the operational base together with the recovered items.
They are currently in custody and assisting the Police and Military with investigations.
The ongoing investigations are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the possession of the recovered weapons and security-related items, as well as determine whether the suspects have any links to emerging security threats in the area.
The operation is part of Exercise STARLIGHT STRETCH III, an ongoing exercise focused on strengthening the preparedness of the Ghana Army to deal with emerging security challenges.
The exercise also provides an opportunity for security agencies to work jointly, share intelligence and conduct coordinated operations in areas where security concerns have been identified.
The Kromase operation demonstrates the role of intelligence gathering, coordinated searches and inter-agency collaboration in preventing potential threats and maintaining peace and security.
Authorities are continuing with investigations into the suspects and the items recovered during the operation.
