2026 FIFA World Cup: President Mahama tasks supporters to return immediately after the tournament
President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has tasked Ghanaian Soccer supports who will be having access to support the Black Stars during the FIFA world cup 2026 in USA, Mexico and Canada to return home immediately after the tournament.
He also described the 2026 FIFA World Cup as a strategic opportunity to elevate Ghana’s global image, urging strict adherence to travel regulations by supporters who intend to follow the Black Stars to the tournament.
During the 2026 State of the Nation Address in Parliament, the President stressed that Ghana’s participation in the global competition must go beyond football and serve as a vehicle for national branding.
“This (the 2026 World Cup) is an opportunity to boost national branding. Supporters requiring to go must put in a visa request. We must ensure World Cup supporters return after tournament,” he stated.
The President’s comments come as Ghana prepares for its fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Mahama underscored the importance of responsible travel by fans, emphasizing that supporters must follow proper visa procedures and comply with immigration regulations of the host nations. According to him, safeguarding Ghana’s international reputation is paramount as the country takes part in one of the world’s most watched sporting events.
The Black Stars are expected to draw significant support from Ghanaian communities abroad, particularly in North America.
Ghana will compete in Group L of the 2026 World Cup, facing Panama, England, and Croatia as they aim to improve on recent performances and make a strong statement on the global stage
