ASIEDU-NKETIAH JETS OFF TO SOUTH KOREA AS NDC TAKES CENTRE STAGE AT GLOBAL POLITICAL CONFERENCE

NDC National Chairman leaves Ghana for Seoul to join landmark intercontinental dialogue among political parties

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, has left Ghana for Seoul, South Korea, where he is expected to represent the party at a major international political gathering.

Asiedu-Nketiah departed Accra on Sunday, September 6, 2026, following an invitation from the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) to participate in the inaugural meeting of the Intercontinental Dialogue Among Political Parties.

The high-level conference is scheduled to take place in Seoul from September 7 to 9, 2026, bringing together political parties and leaders from different parts of the world.

NDC CHAIRMAN HEADS TO SEOUL

The visit places the NDC at the centre of an international platform designed to promote dialogue and cooperation among political parties across continents.

Asiedu-Nketiah’s participation is expected to provide an opportunity for the NDC to engage with political actors from Asia and other regions on issues of common political and democratic interest.

The conference also offers the veteran Ghanaian politician a platform to exchange experiences and perspectives on party organisation, democratic governance and international political cooperation.

AZORKA TAKES OVER AS ACTING NATIONAL CHAIRMAN

While Asiedu-Nketiah is away, the NDC has announced that National Vice Chairman, Chief Awudu Sofo Azorka, will assume the responsibilities of National Chairman.

Azorka will act in the position throughout the NDC chairman’s absence.

The arrangement ensures that the party’s national leadership continues to function without interruption while its substantive chairman represents the NDC on the international stage.

ASIEDU-NKETIAH TO RETURN SEPTEMBER 12

The NDC National Chairman is expected to return to Ghana on Saturday, September 12, 2026, after completing his engagements in South Korea.

His trip comes at a time when Ghana’s political parties continue to strengthen international relationships and engage with political organisations beyond the country’s borders.

A GLOBAL STAGE FOR THE NDC

Asiedu-Nketiah’s participation in the inaugural Intercontinental Dialogue marks another international engagement for the NDC and gives the party an opportunity to showcase its political experience and perspectives on a global platform.

For the duration of his trip, however, the responsibility of steering the NDC’s national affairs will rest with Chief Awudu Sofo Azorka.

The former NDC General Secretary, popularly known as General Mosquito, is expected to join political leaders and representatives from across the world for discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation and dialogue among political parties.

His participation gives the NDC an opportunity to engage directly with political organisations beyond Africa and share Ghana’s democratic and political experiences on an international stage.

AZORKA STEPS IN

But while the NDC Chairman is away, the party will not be without a substantive hand at the helm.

NDC National Vice Chairman, Chief Awudu Sofo Azorka, will act as National Chairman during Asiedu-Nketiah’s absence.
