Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD) and an aide to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reportedly been granted bail in the sum of GH¢50 million with three sureties.

The development was disclosed by the NPP’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, during an interview on Channel One Newsroom on Monday, July 13.

According to Ahiagbah, he hopes the bail conditions will either be fulfilled or reviewed to enable Aboagye to regain his freedom.

“My earlier briefing was GH¢50 million with three sureties. I hope that condition is either met or varied for him to be granted bail,” he stated.

Aboagye was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) at the Accra International Airport after arriving in Ghana. His arrest forms part of ongoing investigations into alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities involving approximately GH¢55 million during his time as Executive Secretary of IMCCoD.

He was arrested together with Gerald Appiah, the former accountant of the IMCCoD Secretariat, who is also being investigated in connection with the case.

EOCO has explained that it had placed Aboagye on a stop list about a week before his arrest as part of an operation to apprehend him. However, the anti-graft agency said he had already travelled outside Ghana before the directive could be enforced.

The agency said officers of the Ghana Immigration Service intercepted Aboagye when he arrived at the Accra International Airport on Saturday, July 11, and subsequently handed him over to EOCO investigators on Sunday morning.

Following his arrest, Aboagye accompanied EOCO officials on a search operation on Sunday as part of the ongoing investigation. The anti-corruption agency indicated that the search was expected to continue as investigators gather further evidence in the case.

The investigations remain ongoing as EOCO seeks to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged financial and procurement irregularities involving an estimated GH¢55 million at the IMCCoD.
