Ghana TVET Service warns against unauthorised fee collection

The Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service has issued a fresh warning to technical institutes against collecting fees that have not been officially approved.

The warning comes as the Service reiterates its commitment to ensuring transparency, fairness and accountability in the administration of TVET institutions across the country.

The Ghana TVET Service has previously taken disciplinary action against heads of technical institutes over allegations of unauthorised fee collection and extortion. In October 2025, three principals from Agona Swedru Technical Institute, Sunyani Technical Institute and Madina Technical Institute were placed on 30-day administrative leave while investigations were conducted.

The alleged charges included admission fees, boarding protocol payments, fees for changing residential status, fashion practical items, bedsheets and Parent-Teacher Association-related payments.

Management said such practices undermine the objectives of the Free TVET Policy and warned that officials found culpable could face sanctions.

The Service has maintained that it will continue to protect students and parents from unauthorised charges while promoting professionalism and accountability throughout the TVET system.
