Ghanaian defender Ebenezer Kpozo joins Slovak Nike Liga side FK Zeleziarne Podbrezova
Defender Ebenezer Kpozo has completed a move to Slovak Nike Liga side FK Zeleziarne Podbrezova from fellow Slovak club FK Pohronie, the club has announced.
The highly-rated 19-year-old centre-back has signed a three-year contract with Podbrezova as he takes the next step in his development after gaining valuable senior football experience with Pohronie.
Kpozo’s arrival is expected to strengthen Podbrezova’s defensive options ahead of the new season, with the club viewing the young Ghanaian as a player capable of developing into a key figure in the future.
The Horehronie-based club believes the defender’s physical attributes, athleticism and aggressive style of play will add quality competition within the squad as he adapts to head coach Stefan Markulik’s tactical system.
Speaking after the completion of the transfer, Podbrezova General Manager Miroslav Poliacek expressed confidence in the Ghanaian’s potential.
“Ebenezer has a very good physique and interesting parameters for a defender of his age. In addition, he has already played several matches in Pohronie, which is valuable experience,” Poliacek said.
“We have agreed on a three-year cooperation. We expect that as he settles into our environment, he will bring the right level of aggression and intensity to our game. We believe that in time he can challenge for a place in the starting lineup.”
The move forms part of Podbrezova’s long-term recruitment strategy centred on identifying and developing young talents with high potential.
The club has built a reputation for nurturing emerging players who later progress to bigger clubs both in Slovakia and across Europe.
The young defender will now look to impress during pre-season and establish himself as a regular feature in Podbrezova’s defensive setup as the club prepares for the challenges of the upcoming campaign.
