GoldBod Donates GH¢2 Million to MahamaCares to Boost Chronic Disease Care in Ghana
The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has donated GH¢2 million to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as MahamaCares, to support healthcare delivery and combat the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) nationwide.
At a brief presentation ceremony, GoldBod’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Richard Nunekpeku, expressed confidence in the vision of President John Dramani Mahama and the leadership of the Fund.
“We are convinced of the foresight behind MahamaCares and the capacity of its administrators to deliver on its mission and use the resources effectively. This is why we are making this donation,” he stated.
Mr. Nunekpeku also urged other state and corporate institutions to rally behind the initiative, which he described as crucial for addressing Ghana’s chronic disease care challenges.
Receiving the donation, Obuobia Darko Opoku, Administrator of the MahamaCares Fund, revealed that a recent needs assessment had uncovered severe shortages of essential medical equipment across major healthcare facilities in Accra.
She reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to bridging these gaps: “Our focus is to equip health institutions with the tools needed to provide quality care for patients battling non-communicable diseases.”
GoldBod’s contribution marks a significant step toward strengthening Ghana’s health infrastructure. Beyond financial support, the gesture reflects a collective resolve to ensure improved health outcomes for all Ghanaians.
