Gov’t, MultiChoice Seal Landmark Deal to Cut DSTV Prices and Boost Value for Ghanaian Subscribers
The Minister of Communication and Digitalisation, Sam George, has announced a groundbreaking agreement between the government and MultiChoice Ghana that will deliver significant relief to DSTV subscribers through revised pricing and enhanced services.
The deal, reached after extensive deliberations by a stakeholder committee including representatives from the Ministry of Communication, the National Communications Authority, MultiChoice Africa, and MultiChoice Ghana, is designed to provide better value for customers while addressing challenges in the pay-TV industry.
Tackling Decoder Piracy
One of the key issues raised during the negotiations was the growing problem of cross-border piracy involving DSTV decoders from Nigeria. This practice has deprived Ghana of tax revenue, shifted job opportunities away from the local market, and denied customers proper service.
To combat this, the committee has recommended the creation of a working group to implement strict anti-piracy measures.
New Pricing Structure from October 1, 2025
Under the new arrangement, DSTV subscribers in Ghana will enjoy upgraded packages at no extra cost, with more channels and greater savings:
Padi → Access (GH₵ 99): +35 channels, 40% savings.
Access → Family (GH₵ 190): +19 channels, 48% savings.
Family → Compact (GH₵ 380): +22 channels, including live football, 50% savings.
Compact → Compact Plus (GH₵ 570): +12 channels, 33% savings.
Compact Plus → Premium (GH₵ 865): +18 channels, 34% savings.
In addition, MultiChoice Africa will subsidize the Zap decoder and dish kit by GH₵ 555, allowing new customers to purchase at half the current cost.
Gov’t Welcomes the Move
Minister Sam George praised MultiChoice for its commitment to Ghanaian subscribers, describing the initiative as a step toward easing the financial burden on households, improving service quality, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of DSTV in the country.
The stakeholder committee is expected to reconvene in three months to review the progress and impact of the new measures.
