KMA Reports Police Officer Over Alleged Gun Threat During Towing Dispute

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has reported a police officer to the Ghana Police Service following an alleged firearm threat during a dispute involving a towing company over a wrongly parked vehicle.

The incident, which has gained attention on social media, occurred around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, at Roman Hill in Kumasi’s Central Business District.

According to a statement issued by the KMA on Wednesday, July 22, personnel from Day and Night Towing Service, a company contracted by the Assembly, had clamped a saloon car parked at an unauthorised location and were preparing to tow it away.

The Assembly said a uniformed police officer, identified as Y.E. Aboagye, arrived at the scene and claimed ownership of the vehicle. The officer reportedly questioned the authority of the towing team to remove the car, resulting in a heated exchange.

The KMA alleged that during the confrontation, the officer threatened to shoot one of the towing personnel in the foot if they continued with the towing exercise.

Describing the incident as “unfortunate and highly avoidable,” the Assembly said it has officially referred the matter to the Ghana Police Service for investigation.

The KMA further clarified that its Security Taskforce was not involved in the incident and urged the public to disregard claims circulating online linking the viral video to the Assembly’s taskforce.

“The public is therefore urged to disregard any false information linking the said video to the KMA Security Taskforce,” the statement added.
