The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mr. Edudzi Kudzo Tameklo, has appealed to Corporate Ghana and state institutions to extend greater support to lesser-financed sports, stressing their potential to bring glory to the nation.

Speaking during a courtesy call by the national armwrestling team, the Golden Arms, Mr. Tameklo praised the athletes for their remarkable achievements at both the African and World Armwrestling Championships.

“Armwrestling, often considered one of the least financed sports, deserves better recognition. The team’s dedication and perseverance, crowned with medals for Ghana, proves that with support, even lesser-known sports can thrive,” he said.

The Golden Arms visited the NPA management to express gratitude for the Authority’s support during the 14th Africa Armwrestling Championship in Abuja, Nigeria. They also presented their medals from the recent World Armwrestling Championship to the NPA CEO.

Mr. Tameklo commended the athletes for winning two silver medals and one bronze on the global stage, describing the feat as a sign of Ghana’s growing presence in non-traditional sports. He encouraged the team to stay disciplined and ambitious.

“With the records you are setting, others will struggle to match you. Keep fighting, and aim higher, because the sky should not be your limit,” he urged.

He also lauded Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, for his tireless commitment and investment in developing the sport locally and internationally.

Mr. Osei Asibey, on his part, said the visit was to thank the NPA for its vital role in Ghana’s participation in both the African and World Championships. He noted that the Authority’s backing helped boost athlete preparation, which translated into their strong performance.

Earlier this year, the Golden Arms secured 55 medals at continental level before making history at the World Championship through the exploits of Mabel Yeboah and Blessed Abeka Nunoo. The team is now focused on the 2026 Africa Armwrestling Championship in Accra and the 2027 African Games in Egypt.

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Richard Akpokavie, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee; Mr. Husseini Addy, Technical Director of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation; and Mr. Kenneth Odeng Adade.
