Shatta Wale: ‘I Love Mahama’s Ideology, But I’m Not Impressed With His Appointees’

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has expressed admiration for President John Dramani Mahama’s ideology, but criticised members of his government, particularly over what he describes as poor treatment of artistes.

Speaking in an interview on GhOne TV on August 28, 2026, Shatta Wale said he currently has no favourite-performing minister or presidential appointee because of his experiences dealing with government officials.

“I’m happy with President Mahama and his ideology. So far, I don’t have any best-performing minister or appointees of the president. I can tell you why I don’t have any,” he stated.

The artiste cited his experience with activities surrounding Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup as one of the reasons for his dissatisfaction.

According to Shatta Wale, he and his team supported the Black Stars financially and undertook promotional activities for the national team, but have allegedly not received payment for the services rendered.

“With the World Cup that we did, you know we had to promote everything. We were supposed to be paid, but up till now, I’ve not been paid,” he alleged.

He disclosed that his Hotwatt team also donated $100,000 to the Black Stars, adding that his office was responsible for facilitating the donation.

“My Hotwatt team and I donated some money to the Black Stars. We gave them $100,000, and that one, it’s my office that had to go and deal with that,” he said.

Shatta Wale further claimed that his team carried out promotional activities, including social media postings and advertisements for the Black Stars, for which he believes the government owes him approximately GH¢5 million.

“For the postings and ads that we did for Black Stars, I think they owe me about GH¢5 million, and they’ve not paid even a penny,” he stated.

He also complained about difficulties reaching some government officials responsible for the matter, saying calls to a minister and his deputy allegedly went unanswered.

“You would call the minister and the deputy, but they won’t pick up the call. This is total disrespect in this country, and that’s why some of us are pissed,” he noted.

Beyond the World Cup issue, Shatta Wale criticised what he described as a culture in which government officials contact artistes mainly when they need their services.

“I’m not happy with all of them. They’re in their offices, and they feel when they need you, that’s when they will reach out,” he said.

He consequently warned ministers and other government officials that he would no longer provide his services without appropriate compensation.

“Any minister who calls me for something, just know that I will charge you,” Shatta Wale declared.

The musician also criticised individuals he accused of using public funds to acquire properties abroad and relocate their families.

“When they get GH¢50 million, they want to go and buy a house in Canada. Some of them want to buy a house in America, take their children and fly them abroad, but that money is for the citizens,” he said.

Shatta Wale maintained that he remains pleased with President Mahama and his ideology, while distinguishing the President from the appointees whose performance he says has left him dissatisfied.
