Shatta Wale Says ShattaFest UK Organisers Have Ignored Him After Cancellation

Ghanaian dancehall musician Shatta Wale has expressed disappointment with the organisers of the cancelled ShattaFest UK, claiming that none of them has contacted him since the event was called off.

According to the artiste, the silence is disrespectful, particularly because he considers ShattaFest a project he organised in partnership with Akwaba UK.

Shatta Wale explained that the collaboration was intended to transform the annual Party in the Park event into a special experience for members of the Shatta Movement and other Ghanaian music lovers in the UK.

He said his team had raised concerns about how the event was being handled, including its promotion, and that he had anticipated possible security challenges.

The musician recalled that he was only about two or three minutes away from the venue when he learnt that the event had been cancelled.

“I was just like two or three minutes to the venue, and I was just laughing. When it happened, I was just calm, chill.”

Shatta Wale also disclosed that the financial arrangement with the organisers was based on a partnership, with both sides expected to share revenue from ticket sales.

With the cancellation leaving the financial agreement unresolved, he said he may instruct his lawyers to formally engage the organisers.

“I’ll still have to let my lawyers write to them and let them know it was an agreement. The problem is they have to pay.”

Despite the controversy, Shatta Wale said he has not received a direct call from any of the organisers since the cancellation.

“Well, after everything, none of the organisers called me.”

He added that members of his team had tried contacting the organisers, but their calls allegedly went unanswered.

“They are not even picking up their calls. That’s disrespectful.”

The development has also prompted Shatta Wale to criticise some Ghanaian event promoters operating abroad. He urged promoters to conduct their businesses professionally and treat Ghanaian artistes with greater respect when organising events outside the country.

He acknowledged that international promoters play an important role in exposing Ghanaian music to new audiences but insisted that they must properly fulfil their responsibilities.

Shatta Wale maintained that he invested heavily in ShattaFest because he wanted to create a successful platform for his fans and other Ghanaian artistes.

“I’m giving you guys an opportunity to let us make this happen. Let’s do it beautifully so that other artistes can come and enjoy this thing.”
