Ghanaian rap heavyweight Sarkodie has sparked a heated conversation on social media after sharing a short but controversial message about success, money, and the attention that comes with financial growth.

The award-winning rapper took to his X (formerly Twitter) account on July 14, 2026, where he posted: “If you want people to leave you alone, stay broke.”

The statement quickly went viral, with fans and social media users sharing different interpretations of the message. While some believed Sarkodie was highlighting the reality that success often attracts pressure, expectations, and criticism, others questioned whether remaining broke should ever be seen as a way to avoid public attention.

Supporting the rapper’s point, some users argued that people’s attitudes often change when someone begins to achieve financial success.

One user wrote: “Deep, because once you start making the bread, people are going to talk,” while another added: “If you are broke, even you will leave yourself alone.”

However, others challenged Sarkodie’s statement, insisting that financial struggles should not be embraced simply to avoid criticism.

One social media user questioned: “Out of all the things you can choose to be in this world, why choose to be broke?” Another asked: “But do you want to stay broke? That’s the question.”

The conversation also attracted humorous reactions, with one user joking about pretending to be struggling despite having wealthy relatives who support him.
