Don’t Pay for SHS Placement – GES Warns Parents Against Fraudsters

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that parents and guardians are being asked to pay money for the placement of their wards into senior high schools.

In a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the Service emphasized that the placement process is “absolutely free of charge” and cautioned parents and students against giving money to individuals or groups in exchange for school placement.

“At no point should any parent, guardian, or student pay money to any individual or group of persons for placement into any Senior High School or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution,” the statement noted.

The GES explained that transparent and official procedures have been put in place to manage placements. Parents and guardians are therefore advised to rely solely on the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) portal, the Resolution Centres, and official GES communication channels for all placement-related issues.

The Service also urged the public to report any persons demanding money for placements. “We encourage anyone who is approached with demands for money in exchange for placement to report immediately to the Ghana Education Service or the nearest police station for swift action,” the statement stressed.

GES reiterated that school placements are strictly merit-based and not for sale. “The Service remains committed to ensuring fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for all qualified candidates,” it added.
