GES Interdicts Obuasi SHS Headmaster Over Sexual Misconduct Allegations
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Zakaria Abdulai, over allegations of sexual misconduct involving students.
The interdiction, which takes immediate effect, is intended to facilitate investigations into the allegations, according to a statement released by GES on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
The matter reportedly sparked unrest among students, who went on a rampage and destroyed school property and other items. The incident also led to the temporary closure of the school.
As part of the measures taken, Mr Abdulai has been directed to hand over the administration of the institution to the Ashanti Regional Director of Education while investigations into the matter proceed.
GES further disclosed that a formal complaint had been lodged with the police to ensure that the allegations are investigated.
“A complaint has been logged with the Police as well,” the statement noted.
Although the service did not disclose further information about the alleged misconduct, it reaffirmed its commitment to protecting students and staff and maintaining high standards of professional conduct within the education sector.
GES also stressed the importance of safeguarding the welfare of students as the investigation continues.
The interdiction is an administrative step to allow investigations to proceed and should not be interpreted as a determination of guilt. The outcome of the investigation will establish the facts surrounding the allegations.
