A solemn state burial is being held at the Forecourt of the State House for former Minister for Environment, Dr. Ibrahim Muhammed Murtala, and former Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed.

The two distinguished officials were among eight people who tragically lost their lives when a Ghana Air Force helicopter crashed in the Adansi-Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

The nation remains in mourning, with tributes pouring in from all corners of Ghana. Today’s burial rites are expected to draw several high-profile dignitaries, including President John Mahama, the Vice President, the Speaker of Parliament, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the National Chief Imam.

Following the ceremony, the remains of Dr. Murtala and Alhaji Limuna will be laid to rest at the Military Cemetery in Accra.

While the two Muslim leaders are being buried today in accordance with Islamic rites, a larger inter-denominational state funeral for all eight crash victims will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square.
