Gordon and Kane strike as England beat 10-man Czech Republic

England secured their first victory of the UEFA Nations League campaign with a 2–0 win over the Czech Republic in Prague on Tuesday, with Anthony Gordon and captain Harry Kane scoring in the second half.
The hosts were reduced to 10 men in the 25th minute when Pavel Sulc’s yellow card was upgraded to a red following a VAR review of his challenge on Elliot Anderson.
Despite having the numerical advantage, England struggled to break through before the interval. Morgan Rogers came close when his effort struck the post, while Harry Kane was also denied by Czech goalkeeper Matej Kovar.
England eventually found the breakthrough two minutes after the restart. Trent Alexander-Arnold, making his first England start in almost two years, delivered a cross into the area which Gordon met with a header to put the visitors ahead.
Gordon’s goal continued his recent scoring run for England, giving him three goals in his last three appearances for the national team.
Kane then doubled England’s advantage in the 69th minute. The captain reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the area before sending a low finish beyond Kovar. The goal was Kane’s 87th for England.
England had further opportunities late in the match but could not add to the score. Goalkeeper James Trafford and the defence also helped secure a clean sheet as Thomas Tuchel’s side closed out the victory.
The result gives England three points in Nations League Group A3 after their earlier 3–2 defeat to Spain.
Tuchel praised Gordon’s opening goal and highlighted the quality of Alexander-Arnold’s delivery. England’s official account also reported Gordon’s appreciation for his teammate’s assist.
