Ghanaian musician Mzbel has opened up about the devastating loss of her sister, alleging that the tragedy was linked to the unavailability of a hospital bed at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Speaking through tears in a facebook video, Mzbel said she has heard stories about the hospital’s long-standing “no bed syndrome” since childhood but never imagined that her own family would one day be affected.

“I’ve been hearing about the lack of beds at Korle Bu since I was a child. I never thought I would lose my own sister because of it,” she said.

Despite her grief, the musician said she does not hold doctors and nurses responsible for the situation, doctors, nurses or other healthcare workers, insisting they should not be held responsible for what happened. According to her, medical professionals continue to work under extremely difficult conditions with limited resources and are doing their best to save lives.

She questioned why the recurring problem remains unresolved despite years of public concern, saying governments often mobilize resources during election seasons but have failed to make the same level of commitment toward improving the country’s healthcare system.

The singer’s emotional account has reignited public discussion about the challenges facing Ghana’s health sector, particularly the recurring shortage of beds and congestion at major public hospitals, including Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Mzbel’s comments reflect her personal account and opinion regarding the circumstances surrounding her sister’s death. Her claim that the lack of an available bed contributed to the tragedy has not been independently verified. As of the time of publication, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has not publicly responded to her allegations
