President John Mahama has departed Accra for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to participate in the 39th Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.

At the summit, President Mahama is expected to take a leading role in key Union engagements, including discussions on reparations, gender equity, and financial inclusion. He will also co host a number of high level side events on the margins of the summit.

As part of his engagements, the President will host a breakfast meeting on Saturday to highlight the Accra Reset initiative, under the theme “Addis Reckoning.” The initiative is anticipated to form part of broader conversations on Africa’s development direction and policy reforms.

In addition to plenary sessions, President Mahama is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with several African leaders and heads of multilateral organisations. He will also participate in the Italy Africa Forum, aimed at strengthening cooperation between African states and Italy.

Meanwhile, the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama, is also in Addis Ababa to attend the Summit of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development, where discussions will focus on health, women’s empowerment, and social development across the continent.

President Mahama and the First Lady are expected to return to Accra on Monday, 16 February.
