The National Sports Authority (NSA) has suspended all boxing activities across Ghana following the untimely death of 27-year-old boxer Ernest Akushey, widely known in the ring as Bahubali.

The suspension, announced by NSA Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, comes amid growing concerns over safety standards in the sport. Bahubali’s sudden passing has sent shockwaves through the boxing community, intensifying calls for stricter medical checks and enhanced safety protocols for both amateur and professional fighters.

According to the NSA, the temporary ban will allow for thorough investigations into the circumstances surrounding Bahubali’s death and a comprehensive review of existing measures to safeguard athletes.

Details on the duration of the suspension and any forthcoming reforms are expected to be disclosed in the coming days.
