Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation Minister, Samuel Nartey George, has rejected allegations made against him in a video circulating online, describing the claims as serious, baseless and criminal in nature.

According to Mr George, the individual in the video specifically mentioned his name and office, alleging that he had been placed under surveillance and subjected to hacking on a 24-hour basis.

The individual further claimed that he reported the alleged surveillance and hacking to the Ghana Police Service during the tenure of former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, but alleged that the matter was covered up.

The man also accused Mr George of ordering the assassination of his only brother as part of an alleged attempt to silence him.

Mr George, however, strongly denied the allegations and questioned their basis, pointing out that the alleged incidents were said to have occurred in November 2023.

He explained that at the time, he was not serving as Minister for Communications and therefore did not hold the official position or legal authority that could have enabled him to order surveillance or cyber monitoring of an individual.

“These are grievous allegations with no basis or facts,” Mr George said, stressing that the claims seek to associate him with serious criminal conduct.

In response, the Minister said he had formally reported the matter to the relevant authorities.

He has also requested that the individual behind the allegations be invited by the authorities to substantiate the claims and provide evidence to support his accusations.

Mr George said the move was necessary in the interest of justice and to ensure that serious allegations of criminal conduct are properly investigated rather than allowed to circulate without evidence.

The Minister’s response comes amid growing attention to the video and the allegations made against him.

The matter is now expected to be subjected to the appropriate investigative process following Mr George’s formal complaint to the authorities.
