Sarkodie Blasts Xenophobic Violence in South Africa After Ghanaian’s Death
Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has strongly condemned the latest wave of xenophobic attacks in South Africa, describing the situation as “insane” and calling for urgent action following reports that a Ghanaian national was shot dead amid rising violence targeting foreign nationals.
The award-winning musician expressed deep disappointment over the renewed unrest, noting that South Africa remains one of his favourite countries but insisting that the recent developments are disturbing and unacceptable.
Taking to social media, Sarkodie wrote:
“Disappointed in one of my favourite places in the world, SA. I know not everyone out there is involved in this, but this is insane and makes no sense!”
He stressed that while not all South Africans are involved in the attacks, the growing incidents of violence against foreigners require stronger public condemnation and collective responsibility from citizens.
Sarkodie further urged South Africans to speak out more forcefully against xenophobic violence, warning that the situation is “getting out of hand” and could worsen if not addressed.
“I wish my South African brothers and sisters would speak up against this more strongly because it’s getting out of hand. God help our African brothers and sisters out there,” he added.
His comments come amid renewed concerns over the safety of foreign nationals in South Africa, where recent reports and widely circulated social media videos have shown alleged attacks on migrants and looting of businesses owned by non-citizens.
The reported killing of a Ghanaian national has further intensified public outcry, with many Ghanaians and other Africans calling for stronger protection of foreigners and more decisive action from authorities to prevent further escalation of xenophobic violence.
