University of Ghana Suspends All Campus Gatherings Amid COVID-19 Resurgence
The University of Ghana has suspended all social gatherings on campus with immediate effect following a resurgence of COVID-19 cases, school authorities announced.
This precautionary measure comes after the university confirmed new suspected and positive cases of the virus on Monday, June 23, prompting a call for heightened vigilance across all university premises.
In a statement released on Thursday, June 26, the University Health Directorate confirmed that both suspected and confirmed infections had been detected on campus. Members of the university community — including students, staff, and visitors — are being urged to strictly observe all recommended health protocols to prevent further spread.
The Office of the Dean of Student Affairs subsequently directed all student bodies — including the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG), Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Junior Common Rooms (JCRs), and departmental and school associations — to immediately halt all planned events and celebrations until further notice.
Signed by Professor Rosina I. Kyerematen, Dean of Student Affairs, the directive was described as a necessary move to protect the health and safety of everyone on campus.
The University has called on all campus members and organizations to comply fully with the new restrictions and support ongoing efforts to control the resurgence of infections.
