A Miracle Called Adina: Singer Recounts Survival Through Liberia’s Darkest Days

Award-winning Ghanaian singer Adina Thembi , popularly known as Adina, has opened up about one of the most painful chapters of her life, revealing that she survived Liberia’s brutal civil war as a baby and considers her life a miracle.

Speaking in an interview with Pulse Ghana on July 23, 2026, the singer shared that she was born in Liberia during the height of the country’s civil conflict and believes she could easily have lost her life under the dangerous conditions her family faced.

Adina recounted how her mother risked everything to protect her and her sister while fleeing the violence.

“I was born in Liberia during the civil war; I could have died. That little girl on the back of my mother who didn’t cry when they were passing through the rebel camp because any sound could have literally woken them up to kill all of us,” she said.

The “Too Late” hitmaker revealed that her mother constantly put herself in harm’s way to shield her children whenever gunfire erupted.

According to Adina, her mother would place both children on the ground and cover them with her own body in the hope of protecting them from stray bullets.

“I’m the little girl that my mum would hear the gunshots, put my sister and I on the floor and cover us with her back so that when there’s any stray bullet, it won’t touch us, and I’m here today,” she recounted.

The singer said surviving such a traumatic beginning has shaped the way she views life and continues to remind her to remain grateful despite life’s challenges.

She explained that whenever she encounters difficulties, she reflects on how far God has brought her, describing her survival as undeniable evidence of God’s protection and faithfulness.

“What again do I want from God? With that alone, I’m so grateful to God. Going through life and all the challenges, I always start from the beginning of how I came up and I’m here. The fact that I’m still here and counting is a testament that God is real,” Adina added.
