Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang joined the nationwide clean-up exercise in Accra on Friday, July 10, as part of the government’s efforts to improve sanitation and reduce the risk of flooding following recent heavy rains.

The Vice President worked alongside residents, sanitation workers, security personnel and other government officials to clear choked drains, remove refuse and clean public spaces across parts of the capital.

The exercise forms part of the two-day National General Cleaning Campaign declared by President John Dramani Mahama to restore sanitation in flood-affected communities and help prevent future flooding.

The clean-up campaign brought together ministers, Members of Parliament, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, personnel from the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana National Fire Service, and several volunteer groups, all working together to improve sanitation across the country.

Government has urged all Ghanaians to actively participate in the initiative by adopting proper waste disposal practices and keeping drains free of plastic waste and other debris. Officials say sustained public participation is essential to maintaining a cleaner environment and reducing the impact of flooding during the rainy season.
