President John Dramani Mahama has issued a strong call to his appointees, urging them to embody humility and professionalism in their service to the nation.

The call comes as part of a newly released Code of Conduct, launched on Monday, May 5, 2025, and officially issued on Tuesday, May 6. This initiative forms part of the government’s broader agenda to promote civility, respect, and accountability in public service.

According to the Code, effective governance must be rooted in courtesy and mutual respect between public officials and the citizens they serve. As such, it directs all appointees to avoid rude, offensive, or provocative language and behavior.

The Code encourages appointees to:

  • Be open to giving and receiving constructive criticism

  • Use respectful and appropriate language, even under pressure

  • Protect the integrity and dignity of their office

Speaking at the launch, President Mahama emphasized that leadership must be marked by humility and a deep sense of responsibility. “Public service is about serving people—not lording over them,” he said.

The term “Minister” within the context of the Code extends beyond Cabinet Ministers. It also includes Deputy Ministers, Presidential Staffers, Chief Executive Officers and their Deputies of state and para-statal institutions, members of the Council of State, and all other political appointees.

This development is seen as a step toward deepening transparency, strengthening public trust, and fostering a culture of respectful engagement within government.
