As part of the government’s ambitious 24-Hour Economy initiative, a new machinery park will soon be established in Kumasi under the Make24 module, aimed at reviving Ghana’s local manufacturing sector.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Wednesday, July 3, Abdul Nasar Alidu, a representative of the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, revealed that the Make24 module will begin by focusing on machinery and fabrication.

“Under Make24, we are starting off with machinery and fabrication — producing the tools we need for our farms and industries, like ploughs and aboboyas,” Mr. Alidu explained.

He emphasized that Ghana already possesses the capability to manufacture many essential tools but has not capitalized on this potential. Referring to the GRATIS Foundation — an agency known for industrial innovation — he said, “The GRATIS website lists over 140 tools and machines we can locally produce. Unfortunately, the institution is nearly dormant, and we’re not utilizing these technologies.”

To address this gap, the Secretariat is planning to establish a fully equipped machinery park in Kumasi, tapping into the Suame industrial enclave, a hub already known for local technical innovation.

“Our goal is to build local capacity to manufacture tools for our farms and factories, instead of relying heavily on imports,” Alidu added. “Currently, many Ghanaian factories are uncompetitive because they must import nearly all their equipment. If we can make even a portion of these tools locally, we can reduce costs significantly.”

He further outlined the long-term vision of Make24, which extends beyond agriculture and industry. The ultimate goal is to empower Ghana to manufacture a broader range of consumer goods.

“If we can build what we need for farms and factories, we can eventually start producing televisions and other home appliances,” he said. “Let’s move from reassembling imported parts in Suame to actually designing and producing our own.”

The Make24 initiative, under the 24-Hour Economy plan, represents a bold step toward industrial self-reliance, job creation, and economic transformation in Ghana.
