Revitalizing Ghana’s Film Industry: Ministerial Committee Commissioned to Drive Growth

In a significant move to boost Ghana’s film industry, Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has officially commissioned a Ministerial Committee on the Movie Industry & Creatives (Kumawood). The committee’s primary objective is to drive the growth and transformation of Ghana’s film and creative arts sector.

The 17-member committee, chaired by Bishop Ofori-Adu, comprises actors, including Mercy Asiedu and Bill Asamoah, as well as members of various guilds. Their mandate is multifaceted:

Assessing the Current State: Evaluate the industry’s present condition and identify key challenges hindering its progress.
Developing Policies: Create policies to attract investment, ensuring sustainable growth and development.
Promoting Ghanaian Films: Explore strategies to promote Ghanaian films locally and internationally, increasing their global visibility.
Strengthening Film Infrastructure: Improve production facilities and provide training opportunities to enhance the industry’s capacity.
Enhancing Film Festivals: Celebrate Ghanaian storytelling and creativity through film festivals and cultural showcases.
Fostering Collaboration: Encourage collaboration among stakeholders to create opportunities for filmmakers, actors, and creatives.

Dr. Amoakohene urged committee members to work with dedication, commitment, and unity to ensure Kumawood and the entire creative industry reach new heights. The ultimate goal is to build a globally competitive film industry that showcases the rich stories of Asanteman and Ghana.
