Dr. Razak Kojo Opoku Slams NPP Leadership Over Ashanti Region “Neglect”
Founder of the UP Tradition Institute, Dr. Razak Kojo Opoku, has taken aim at the New Patriotic Party’s Economic Management Team (EMT), led by formal Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, accusing them of sidelining the Ashanti Region despite its consistent electoral loyalty to the party.
In a hard-hitting statement ahead of the January 31, 2026 flagbearership contest, Dr. Opoku questioned the EMT’s record and urged party delegates in the Ashanti Region to demand accountability from the leadership.
He cited several unfulfilled promises and stalled projects, including the Krofrom Market, Afari Military Hospital, Komfo Anokye Maternity and Children’s Block, Kejetia Market Phase II, and the Boankra Inland Port. He further lamented that the region had not seen a single completed interchange or major legacy project under the current administration, describing it as “embarrassing neglect.”
On the economic front, Dr. Opoku criticised government performance, pointing to the sharp depreciation of the cedi to GH₵17 to $1, rising inflation that has weakened purchasing power, and the controversial Domestic Debt Exchange programme, which he argued unfairly punished pensioners, traders, and investors.
He challenged NPP delegates to press for clear timelines on critical infrastructure projects such as the Anloga Junction, Bekwai Roundabout, and Santasi interchanges, as well as pending works on the Suame and Sofoline interchanges, Kumasi-Sunyani Road, and the Accra-Kumasi Road.
Dr. Opoku also raised concerns about the party’s own structures, asking when the NPP would establish a befitting regional headquarters in Ashanti and a modern national secretariat to reflect its stature.
He concluded by calling on delegates not to remain “blind and quiet” but to demand real accountability as the party prepares for a decisive election year.
