In a spirited ceremony, the Ejura-Sekyedumase Municipal Assembly joined the rest of the nation in commemorating Green Ghana Day 2025, under the theme “Tree for Life.” The event, spearheaded by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Rafiu Adam Seidu, brought together key municipal leaders, including the Municipal Coordinating Director, the Municipal Agric Director, officers from the Forestry Commission, traditional leaders, and local stakeholders to kickstart a massive tree-planting initiative.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Rafiu Adam Seidu emphasised the urgent need for collective environmental action in the face of rising climate challenges, deforestation, and land degradation. He called on residents, opinion leaders, institutions, and youth groups to take ownership of environmental stewardship and ensure that tree-planting is not seen as a one-day event but a continuous communal responsibility.

“The trees we plant today are the legacy we leave behind for future generations. They improve air quality, preserve biodiversity, mitigate climate change, and enhance our overall quality of life,” the MCE stated.

The event also served as an opportunity for public education on sustainable land use practices and the long-term benefits of investing in green infrastructure. Representatives from the Forestry Commission highlighted the importance of maintaining planted trees and outlined strategies for community involvement in nurturing them to maturity.

Green Ghana Day, first launched in 2021 as a national tree-planting campaign, continues to gain momentum each year. The 2025 edition reinforces Ghana’s commitment to afforestation and environmental resilience, particularly in the face of growing threats from illegal mining, bushfires, and urban expansion.

In Ejura, hundreds of seedlings were distributed to schools, religious institutions, and community groups to green public spaces and restore degraded lands. The MCE concluded his address with a call to action:

“Let us plant trees not just for today, but for tomorrow. Let us protect our environment not just for ourselves, but for generations to come.”

As the sun set over Ejura, the green shoots planted during the day’s event symbolised a hopeful future, one rooted in responsibility, unity, and sustainable development.
