Ghana Gold Board Mandates Official Receipts for All Gold Transactions

Effective Monday, August 18, 2025, the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has directed that all licensed gold buyers must issue official receipts for every transaction.

This directive applies to licensed aggregators, self-financed aggregators, and Tier 1 and Tier 2 buyers, all of whom are now required to use GoldBod-issued receipt booklets when buying or selling gold.

According to a press statement, the Board explained that receipts are now essential for the validity of gold transactions, forming part of broader measures to curb unregulated trade in the sector.

To ensure compliance, GoldBod has deployed a taskforce and field inspectors nationwide. Licensed buyers are expected to make their receipt booklets available for inspection and cooperate fully with monitoring teams.

The Board also urged small-scale miners and gold traders to insist on receipts for every purchase. Failure to comply will be considered a serious offence, with potential sanctions including suspension or revocation of trading licences.

GoldBod further advised licensed buyers who do not have receipt booklets to contact its Licensing and Regulatory Unit for assistance.
