The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has unveiled a new visa policy that mandates all travel visa applications to Ghana be processed within five working days.

This significant update was announced by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, May 21, 2025. According to the Minister, the new directive takes immediate effect and is aimed at eliminating the prolonged delays that have plagued the visa process, which previously averaged four to six weeks.

“We have implemented robust systems across our diplomatic missions to reduce visa processing times from the usual four to six weeks down to just five working days,” Mr. Ablakwa stated.

He emphasized that while the timeframe for processing has been shortened, it does not imply automatic approval. Instead, applicants will receive a definitive response—approval or denial—within five working days of submitting their application.

“A decision will be made within five working days on whether an individual qualifies for a Ghanaian visa or not,” he clarified.

Mr. Ablakwa linked the new policy to President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment during his January 7, 2025 inaugural address, in which he declared, “Ghana is open for business.”

The Foreign Minister noted that the Ministry is actively working to bring this vision to life by removing administrative delays and enhancing the efficiency of consular services.

“As Foreign Minister, I am determined to make Ghana a more appealing destination for investors and tourists by eliminating the bureaucratic bottlenecks that have long discouraged many,” Mr. Ablakwa affirmed.

The revised visa policy is expected to support national efforts to increase tourism, attract business travelers, and deepen international cooperation—especially as Ghana actively seeks new global partnerships.

“Ghana is truly open for business. Come experience the spirit of the Black Star,” Mr. Ablakwa concluded.
