Ghana’s Embassy in Washington Set to Reopen May 29 with New Leadership Team
After a brief closure, the Embassy of Ghana in Washington, D.C. is set to reopen its doors on Thursday, May 29, 2025. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has confirmed that a fresh team of experienced diplomats has arrived from Accra to take over the reins and restore full operations.
The mission was temporarily shut down following the recall of its home-based staff and the suspension of local employees just last week. In response, the Ministry has deployed a new leadership team, headed by a senior official, to reorganize the Embassy’s operations, streamline its systems, and wrap up ongoing administrative reforms.
An IT team is also working on-site to overhaul the Embassy’s website and digital payment systems. Their main focus is to eliminate all unauthorized or unofficial payment links and bring order to the Embassy’s online services.
In a statement released on Tuesday, May 27, the Ministry assured the public that steps have been taken to clear any service backlogs and improve efficiency moving forward.
“The Ministry wishes to inform the general public that the Embassy is set to reopen on Thursday, 29 May 2025. We assure that measures have been put in place to clear the backlog,” the statement read.
The Ministry has reported the circumstances that led to the closure to both the Auditor-General and the Attorney-General for further review. While no names were mentioned, the Ministry noted that the situation could lead to sanctions.
