“I Just Drop It and Go”: Gyakie Opens Up About Protecting Her Peace from Social Media Comments

Ghanaian singer Jacqueline Acheampong, popularly known as Gyakie, is learning to guard her peace in a world that never stops commenting.

In a candid chat with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, the “Forever” hitmaker shared how she’s changed the way she engages with social media, particularly the comment sections that come with her music and public appearances.

“I don’t want to read comments anymore,” she said. “These days, I just post my work and move on.”

Though Gyakie still values feedback, she’s become more selective about the kind of advice she takes seriously. “One person says my hair is too short. Another says it’s too long. So what should I do?” she asked. “At the end of the day, I’ve realized I have to go with what feels right to me and what I believe my audience will enjoy.”

Earlier in her career, she admitted that negative comments used to get under her skin. But now, she’s learned to focus on her purpose and drown out the noise. “I just drop the music and do what I was brought on this earth to do,” she said with confidence.

While she hasn’t completely stopped reading all comments, Gyakie says she no longer sifts through every single one. “The mind is very tricky. You might think you’re strong, but one bad comment can ruin your whole week—because we’re all human, we have feelings.”

Her approach is clear: protect your peace, trust your craft, and keep showing up.
