Mahama Orders Audit of State Lands, Lifts Ban on Transactions
President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Lands Commission to carry out a full-scale audit of state lands allocated, leased, or sold between 2017 and 2024.
Speaking at the inauguration of the reconstituted National Lands Commission on Tuesday, September 2, the President said any unlawful or irregular deals uncovered will be cancelled, and the affected lands reclaimed by the state in line with existing laws.
He revealed that the Sale of State Lands Committee had already begun its work and is expected to present its findings in the coming weeks.
President Mahama also announced the lifting of the temporary ban on state land transactions. He stressed that all future allocations, leases, and sales must strictly adhere to transparent procedures, include digital verification, and undergo rigorous oversight.
Expressing concern about the underrepresentation of women on the commission, with only one female member currently serving, the President urged the enforcement of the Affirmative Action Law. The law mandates that at least 30 percent of positions on all boards and institutions be reserved for women, ensuring gender balance and inclusivity in governance.
