Mahama Orders Road Contractors Back to Site After Audit Clears Path for Project Resumption

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that road contractors who previously abandoned their projects across the country will soon return to complete them, following the completion of an audit by the Auditor-General.

The President made this declaration on Sunday, July 20, during his Eastern Regional Thank You Tour at Jackson Park in Koforidua.

According to him, the Auditor-General’s report on road contracts awarded under the previous administration has been finalized, allowing government to take decisive action to revive stalled infrastructure projects.

“As part of our Big Push Agenda, the government is prioritizing infrastructure development. The Auditor-General has submitted his report, so we are making arrangements for the contractors to return to their sites,” President Mahama stated.

He, however, issued a strong warning to contractors who were found to have received double payments — from both the Road Fund and the Ministry of Finance — saying they will face punitive measures.

“Those who took double payments will be punished,” he emphasized.

President Mahama’s announcement was met with commendation from Nene Sakite II, President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, who praised the administration’s performance within its first 120 days in office.

“As the saying goes, good is not good enough where better is possible,” Nene Sakite said. “Your leadership must now build on this momentum to bring sustainable development, hope and prosperity to all Ghanaians.”

He also reaffirmed the support of traditional leaders in the fight against illegal mining (galamsey), urging the President to remain firm in sustaining the campaign.
