The National Communications Authority (NCA) has confirmed receiving a formal response from MultiChoice Ghana regarding its notice of intention to suspend the company’s authorisation and the government’s request for a review of its pricing model.

In a statement issued on September 7, 2025, the NCA announced that the first meeting of the newly established Stakeholder Committee will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025.

This development follows a warning from the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, who cautioned that government would shut down MultiChoice Ghana’s DStv operations on September 6 if the company failed to engage in discussions on subscription reductions.

MultiChoice Ghana had earlier denied agreeing to slash subscription fees but reiterated its willingness to dialogue. In a September 5 statement, the pay-TV operator stressed that no decision had yet been taken on lowering charges.

According to the NCA, further engagements with MultiChoice have resulted in three key agreements:

1. MultiChoice Ghana has accepted the Minister’s directive to form a Stakeholder Committee to evaluate DStv pricing in the country and has committed to participate fully in the process.

2. The final outcome of the committee’s work will be determined at the end of its review.

3. The company has pledged to respect due process, as well as the laws of Ghana and the interests of its people.

The NCA assured the public that updates on the matter will be provided as the committee’s work progresses.
