NCA Suspends Nine Radio Stations Nationwide for Regulatory Violations
The National Communications Authority (NCA) has suspended the operations of nine radio stations across Ghana due to multiple breaches of broadcasting regulations.
This action follows the expiration of a 30-day grace period granted by President John Dramani Mahama, allowing offending stations time to correct their violations.
In a statement dated August 12, the NCA revealed that six stations failed to take any corrective measures during the amnesty period.
While some stations complied and addressed their regulatory issues, three others continued to operate unlawfully. The violations included unauthorized use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and broadcasting from unapproved transmitter sites.
The Authority emphasized that these stations were operating without a valid Certificate of Compliance, in direct violation of Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 1991).
As a result, the NCA has suspended the following stations: Donplus Multimedia Limited (Ho, 105.9 FM), Dreams Ghana Media Limited (New Abirem, 104.9 FM), Jam Multimedia Limited (Kintampo, 101.3 FM), Jewel Group Limited (Duayaw Nkwanta, 102.7 FM), Kandai Star Community Radio (Kpandai, 107.3 FM), Unique Gateway Communication Limited, and three stations under Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited located in Accra (95.9 FM), Kumasi (101.3 FM), and Takoradi (101.3 FM).
The NCA reaffirmed its dedication to upholding broadcasting laws to ensure order and professionalism within Ghana’s media sector.
“The NCA will continue to monitor the broadcasting space to guarantee full compliance with authorization conditions and applicable laws,” the statement concluded.
