Police Intercept Vehicle Loaded with Firearms in Kuntanase, Suspects Flee
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation after intercepting a vehicle containing firearms and ammunition in the Kuntanase area.
The discovery occurred on August 17, 2025, during a routine patrol along the Aputuoagya–Bekwai road. Officers observed a suspicious white Toyota Sienta, registration No. NR 289-24, parked near a bushy area.
According to a police statement, two men were seen beside the vehicle, allegedly smoking a substance suspected to be narcotics. Upon noticing the approaching officers, the suspects fled into nearby bushes, evading capture despite a pursuit.
A subsequent search of the abandoned vehicle revealed a cache of dangerous items, including:
One AK-47 assault rifle (Serial No. 29546)
One locally manufactured firearm
Two AK-47 magazines, each loaded with 30 rounds
Four packets of AK-47 ammunition (25 rounds per packet)
Seven loose rounds of ammunition
Personal items, including a Huawei smartphone, cowrie shells, and a Ghana Card
The vehicle has been impounded at the Kuntanase Police Station, and the recovered items are being held as exhibits to support further investigations.
