The Ghana Police Service has unveiled a new 24-Hour Economy Security Secretariat to ensure public safety and support the seamless, crime-free implementation of the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy Policy.

The Secretariat, located at the National Police Headquarters, will serve as the central hub for coordinating all security operations tied to the policy’s nationwide rollout.

The announcement was made by COP Daniel Kwame Afriyie, Director General of Private Security Organizations at the Ghana Police Service, during the graduation of 238 recruits from the Regional Police Training School in Ho.

“In line with our proactive measures, the Police Administration has established the 24-Hour Economy Security Secretariat to oversee all security aspects of the policy’s implementation,” COP Afriyie stated.

He reaffirmed the Police Service’s readiness to play a pivotal role in the success of the 24-Hour Economy initiative, which was officially launched by former President John Mahama on July 2, 2025.

The 24-Hour Economy Policy, a key campaign promise of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is designed to foster round-the-clock productivity across key sectors such as manufacturing, agro-processing, healthcare, transportation, and retail. Its broader aim is to tackle unemployment and boost economic growth through shift-based operations.

COP Afriyie emphasized that the Ghana Police Service is prepared to protect workers and citizens “at all times, enabling them to engage in lawful economic and social activities without fear of disruption from criminal elements.”

He further noted that in response to evolving security threats—including cybercrime, violent crime, and communal conflicts—the Police Administration has significantly strengthened its specialized operational units to meet emerging demands.

> “The current security environment requires a more dynamic, skilled, and specialized approach. We are rising to that challenge,” he added.

At the passing-out ceremony, a total of 238 recruits—including 31 Under Cadets and 207 General Recruits—were formally welcomed into the Police Service after rigorous academic and field training.

Their coursework included Police Science, Law Studies, and Social Science, while practical exercises covered areas like riding, driving, swimming, disaster management, and public order control.

Several recruits received honors for outstanding performance:

PW/SGT Dedjoe Sophia (National Police Training School, Accra) – Overall National Best Under-Cadet Officer

G/R Gyarteng Evans (Regional Police Training School, Koforidua) – Overall National Best Recruit

G/CPL Agyaponh-Mensah Eric – Best Under-Cadet Officer, Ho

G/R Amedome-Reigns Emmanuel – Best Recruit and Overall Best, Ho

The ceremony marked both a celebration of new talent entering the force and a clear commitment by the Ghana Police Service to ensure security remains a cornerstone of the 24-Hour Economy vision.
