The Ghana Police Service is working in close collaboration with Nigerian authorities to arrange the return of two kidnapped victims and several suspects to Ghana.

The two Ghanaian females, whose distressing video recently went viral on social media, were rescued through a joint security operation involving the Ghana Police Service, the National Signals Bureau (NSB), and the Nigeria Police Force.

The rescue mission also led to the arrest of eight suspects, apprehended at various locations across Ghana and Nigeria. The operation, marked by coordinated intelligence efforts, ensured the swift tracking and capture of the suspects believed to be connected to the kidnapping.

At a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday, May 7, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, confirmed that both the victims and the suspects are currently in the custody of Nigerian authorities.

“Efforts are ongoing to repatriate the victims and facilitate the extradition of the suspects to Ghana to aid in further investigations,” she stated.

DCOP Donkor further disclosed that the families of the victims had paid a total of GHS18,000 to different phone numbers as ransom.

She assured the public that the victims are in stable condition and have undergone necessary medical examinations.

“Our counterparts in Nigeria have confirmed that both victims are doing well and have received routine medical checks,” she added.
