Former President Kufuor Breaks Silence: Confirms NPP’s Failures, Admits Arrogance and Mismanagement Cost Ghana
The National Democratic Congress has observed with keen interest the recent reflections of former President John Agyekum Kufuor on the governance record of the New Patriotic Party under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo His candid remarks, acknowledging missteps and failures within his own party, are significant and deserve the attention of all Ghanaians.
President Kufuor has openly admitted that the NPP rode on his achievements to secure electoral victory in 2016, only to abandon prudent governance and embark on policies that have brought untold hardship to the Ghanaian people. He has further revealed that he was not consulted on major national decisions, including the controversial National Cathedral project, the Domestic Debt Exchange programme that devastated pensioners and investors, and scandals such as PDS.
These admissions confirm what the NDC consistently highlighted during the period of governance: that the NPP was driven by arrogance, unilateralism, and disregard for collective wisdom.
While we respect President Kufuor’s stature as a former Head of State, we can not overlook the fact that his long silence during the years of reckless decision-making contributed to the suffering of ordinary citizens. His recent comments, though welcome, come only after the NPP has suffered electoral defeat and internal disunity. This raises legitimate questions about why he chose not to speak when Ghanaians most needed his voice.
The NDC has always maintained that leadership must serve the people, not vanity projects or narrow partisan interests. Governance should be rooted in accountability, consultation, and prudent use of resources.
President Kufuor’s belated admission only strengthens our case that the NPP has failed Ghana and betrayed the trust of the people.
As the nation looks ahead to the future, the NDC stands ready to provide the kind of leadership that listens, consults, and places the welfare of citizens above all else. We urge Ghanaians to reflect on these revelations and recognize that the NPP, by its own admission, has lost its way.
Ghana deserves better. Ghana deserves leadership that is honest, accountable, and people-centered. That is the leadership the NDC offers.

Minority Accuses Government of Stalling Reintroduction of Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill
The Minority in Parliament says it is disappointed with what it believes is a deliberate attempt by the government to delay the return of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, popularly known as the anti-LGBTQ bill.
According to the caucus, it has been five weeks since the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, assured the House that the reintroduced bill was undergoing final adjustments to prepare it for smooth passage and implementation. Despite that assurance, the bill has not yet appeared before Parliament for further discussion.
Addressing the House on Friday, November 21, the lead sponsor of the bill and Member of Parliament for Assin South, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, called for the bill to be reprogrammed on the order paper next week so the House can resume work on it.
He noted that the Speaker’s ruling had not been followed through and raised concern about what he described as growing threats to cultural and family values. He urged Parliament not to give the impression that a matter considered a priority in the Eighth Parliament had suddenly been set aside.
Reverend Fordjour added that if the omission of the bill from the order paper was an oversight, it should be corrected immediately so the first reading can proceed.
Responding to the concerns, the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, dismissed the accusations. He stressed that the government is not attempting to block the bill and reaffirmed the Mahama administration’s commitment to ensuring its passage.

Afenyo-Markin Chooses Neutral Path in NPP Presidential Race, Says His Role Demands Unity Over Loyalty
Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has announced that he will remain neutral in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming presidential primaries. He says his position as a leader calls for unity within the party, not open endorsement of any particular candidate.
Speaking on Joy News on Monday, October 27, Afenyo-Markin explained that while many of his colleagues have publicly declared support for various aspirants, his leadership role requires him to act with restraint and impartiality.
“For me as a leader, I cannot publicly say I am going to campaign for this person,” he stated. “Because of where I sit, I have a role to play in the aftermath of January 31st, so I believe it’s best to stay neutral.”
He noted that taking sides could make it difficult for him to effectively mediate and unite the party after the internal elections.
“If I show my hand openly now, it will be hard for others to trust my efforts when I try to bring everyone together later. So, I think it’s only right to stay this way,” he added.
Despite his neutral stance, the Effutu MP praised colleagues who have openly declared their support for various candidates, describing their approach as “decent and responsible.”
“I think so far, the MPs who have declared their positions have done so respectfully. Initially, my concern was how those who openly supported candidates would manage themselves, but they’ve been decent,” he said.
Afenyo-Markin also reiterated his earlier call for MPs to remain neutral to preserve harmony in the party, warning that internal contests should not breed division.
“To be a credible referee who is trusted by all sides, it’s better to remain neutral—at least not declare publicly,” he advised.
He acknowledged that not everyone agrees with his position, but emphasized that he respects the right of others to support their preferred candidates as long as it’s done with decorum.
His remarks come as the NPP prepares for a crucial presidential primary, a contest expected to shape the party’s leadership and direction ahead of the next general election.
