Viral kidnapping case: Two victims alive and safe – Police
The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that the two Ghanaian women recently kidnapped and seen in a viral video have been rescued in Nigeria and are safe.
Speaking on Citi Prime News on Friday, May 2, the Director of Public Affairs, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, said the rescue was the result of a coordinated cross-border operation between Ghanaian and Nigerian security forces.
“We’ve been able to rescue the two ladies. They are alive. They are safe. The victims were rescued in Nigeria… They are fine. They are in safe hands of the Nigerian Police Force,” she said.
ACP Ansah-Akrofi explained that the operation began last week in Ghana after reports of the abduction emerged. A special task force, formed by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, included personnel from the CID, Police Intelligence, Cybercrime Unit, and other key departments.
“Throughout last week we were working on this case. The IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno constituted a special team made up of officers from the CID, the police intelligence and the cybercrime unit and other support units,” she noted.
She credited the National Signals Bureau for its role in helping locate the victims. Once intelligence confirmed they were in Nigeria, the IGP contacted his Nigerian counterpart, who responded swiftly by deploying a support team.
The joint operation led to the arrest of three suspects in Nigeria and five in Ghana, as part of a broader investigation into the transnational kidnapping ring.Ghanaian fashion
The police say investigations are ongoing and promised to provide further updates.
