The grand event, held at the Kumasi SG Mall, drew a star-studded audience and high-profile dignitaries from Ghana and beyond, making it one of the most impactful film premieres in recent Ghanaian cinematic history.

The movie, inspired by the bold and rising leader of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, explores themes of African unity, leadership, and resistance against neo-colonialism. The premiere was graced by key government ministers, traditional leaders, and the Ambassador of Burkina Faso to Ghana, who praised the film for its strong Pan-African message and cultural significance. Security was tight, and media coverage widespread, reflecting the magnitude of the event.

“This movie is not just entertainment, it’s a message. A call to African pride and strength. We need to celebrate our heroes while they’re still alive,” Lil Win said in his address at the premiere. “Captain Traore represents hope for the future of Africa.”

Attendees were visibly moved by the powerful storytelling and applauded Lil Win for daring to spotlight a contemporary African leader in a heroic light, a rare move in Ghanaian mainstream film.

The film was shot across various locations in Ghana and includes a blend of action, drama, and political commentary.

Social media has since been buzzing with positive reactions, with many praising Lil Win for taking a bold step in shifting the focus of Ghanaian cinema toward continental consciousness and leadership advocacy.

Shatta Wale’s $300K Lamborghini Seized by EOCO in Joint FBI Operation Over US Fraud Case

Published

on

The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has retrieved a luxury 2019 Lamborghini Urus belonging to Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, in connection with an ongoing international criminal investigation.

The high-profile seizure occurred at Shatta Wale’s residence in Trassaco Valley Phase 1, Accra, following a joint operation between EOCO, the FBI, and the United States Justice Department. The operation was executed under the authority of a 2023 request from U.S. agencies seeking restitution from Nana Kwabena Amuah, a convicted fraudster currently serving an 86-month prison sentence in the United States.

According to EOCO, the Lamborghini—valued at over $300,000—has been tied to proceeds from Amuah’s criminal enterprise. The seizure was carried out professionally and without incident by the Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) of EOCO.

Shatta Wale reportedly pleaded with officers not to publicize the seizure, expressing concerns that it could damage his brand if fans witnessed EOCO officials driving away with the vehicle. He was eventually allowed to surrender the car voluntarily.

EOCO stated that both Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of the National Signal Bureau (NSB) have been declared persons of interest in the case and will be assisting in further investigations.

A formal Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) request is expected to be sent to the Government of Ghana for the repatriation of the car to the U.S., where it will contribute to settling Amuah’s $4.7 million restitution order.

The final investigation report will be shared with the FBI and the U.S. Justice Department as part of ongoing international cooperation.

Daddy Lumba’s One-Week Observation Set for August 30 in Accra; Funeral Rites to Follow in Kumasi

Published

on

The one-week Observation of late Ghanaian music icon, Daddy Lumba, will be held on Saturday, August 30, in Accra at a yet-to-be-disclosed venue. However, the final funeral rites will take place in Kumasi.

This was disclosed by Lumba’s head of family (Abusuapnyin), Kofi Owusu, right after officially visiting Manhyia Palace to inform Otumfuo of Lumba’s death as a royal and son of the soil.

He mentioned that Lumba was royal, so the family couldn’t have announced any arrangements without officially informing the Asantehene and seeking his counsel.

“Led by some chiefs who led the family, the Asantehene openly accepted our visit and quickly responded to our mission to see him.

“ He told us he has heard our reason for coming and added that we should bear in mind that Lumba is a son and a royal of the Asante Kingdom.

“As an elderly person and head of the family, I perfectly understood the position of His Royal Majesty, and with the other members of the family who went with me, we know what to do for Daddy Lumba’s final rest.

“ For the One Week celebration, we can do it in Accra, but for the funeral, we need to return Otumfuo’s son to him in Kumasi for the final funeral rite, so it will be held in Kumasi.

“We will equally inform the Ga Manste. The one week is on Saturday, August 30. We are still deliberating on the venue. If we look at the huge crowd at the Candle Night Vigil on Saturday and take into consideration the initial venue selected, it needs to be changed.

“A big venue has become necessary to avoid chaos or stampede to ensure that everything goes on well without a blemish,” he stated.

Before the One Week celebration, A Candle Night Vigil was held at the Independence Square on Saturday, August 2.

Kumasi will host its version of the Vigil at Heroe’s Park, Kumasi Sports Stadium on Saturday, August 9.
