Stonebwoy’s Wembley Concert: DJ Slim Explains the Use of Curtains
Ghanaian media personality DJ Slim has explained why sections of the OVO Arena Wembley were covered with curtains during Stonebwoy’s historic BHIM Festival concert in London, dismissing suggestions that the curtains indicated poor ticket sales or a failed show.
According to DJ Slim, the use of curtains is a common practice in large entertainment venues when organisers choose not to open every section of an arena. The approach allows event organisers to adjust the venue’s capacity to match attendance and create a more compact and energetic atmosphere for the audience.
He also explained that curtains can serve practical purposes, including improving acoustics by reducing echoes from unused sections, while helping organisers manage lighting and maintain focus on the stage.
DJ Slim stressed that the practice is widely used by event organisers around the world and should not automatically be interpreted as a sign of an unsuccessful concert.
Stonebwoy made history on August 15, 2026, becoming the first Ghanaian artist to headline a concert at the OVO Arena Wembley, a venue with a capacity of about 12,500.
The BHIM Festival transformed the London arena into a celebration of Ghanaian and African music and culture, featuring performances that highlighted the continent’s rich musical heritage.
Stonebwoy was supported by a strong lineup of Ghanaian and African artistes, including Kwabena Kwabena, Tiwa Savage, Mr P, Ofori Amponsah, DopeNation, Juma Jux and Samini.
Their performances added to what was presented as a major celebration of African excellence on one of the world’s renowned entertainment stages.
While the use of curtains has sparked discussion on social media, DJ Slim’s explanation suggests that the focus should remain on the significance of Stonebwoy’s achievement: bringing Ghanaian music to the iconic Wembley stage and making history in the process.

A-Plus: O2 Arena Too Small for Shatta Wale, We’re Targeting Wembley
Gomoa Central Member of Parliament and staunch supporter of dancehall musician Shatta Wale, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has revealed that the artiste’s camp is considering a concert at London’s Wembley Stadium rather than the O2 Arena because of the venue’s limited capacity.
According to A-Plus, the Shatta Wale-led SM Movement has not yet settled on the O2 Arena due to concerns that the venue may not be large enough to accommodate the artiste’s growing fan base.
Speaking on United Showbiz, A-Plus explained that the decision was influenced by the desire to stage a concert on a much larger scale.
“As for us, the 4Lyfe and SM Movement family, the reason we can’t hold a concert at the O2 Arena is that the capacity is too small,” he said.
He disclosed that the team is exploring the possibility of securing Wembley Stadium, which can accommodate about 80,000 people, or the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for a future Shatta Wale concert.
“We are trying to see if they would give us Wembley. We would fill up Wembley Stadium, which has a capacity of about 80,000. That is where we want to play, or maybe Tottenham Stadium,” A-Plus added.
He noted that staging such a major international concert would not only be a significant achievement for Shatta Wale but could also boost Ghana’s tourism and creative arts industry.
A-Plus further encouraged other Ghanaian musicians to aspire to perform at major international venues, citing Stonebwoy’s achievements as an example.
“We would also congratulate Stonebwoy and urge all artists to also try and do it. As we are saying all of this, support and sponsorship are also very important,” he stated.
He stressed that adequate financial support and sponsorship remain crucial for Ghanaian artistes seeking to organise large-scale concerts and establish themselves on major international stages.

Sefa Reveals How a D-Black Instagram DM Changed the Course of Her Music Career
Ghanaian singer Sefa has revealed that one of the biggest turning points in her music career came from an unexpected Instagram direct message she received while she was still a university student.
According to the singer, rapper and entrepreneur D-Black reached out to her after coming across a video of her singing. He told her that he was working with music producer DJ Breezy to establish a record label and was interested in having her join.
Speaking on a cooking show on UTV on August 16, 2026, Sefa said she initially struggled to believe that the message was genuinely from D-Black.
Rather than responding immediately, she showed the message to one of her lecturers and asked her to verify the Instagram account.
“I was having lectures in school. I realised I had a DM on Instagram from D-Black. I showed the message to my madam that I got a message, but she should confirm if it’s really D-Black. When she checked, she said it’s him, and it’s a verified account,” she recalled.
Sefa said D-Black explained that he had discovered her through a video of her singing and believed she had the potential to become part of the new musical project.
“He said he saw a video of me singing. He and DJ Breezy want to start a record label, so I should let him know if I’m interested in joining,” she said.
With the opportunity still seeming almost too good to be true, Sefa consulted her mother before making a decision. Her mother encouraged her to accept the offer and explore where it could lead.
“I had to discuss it with my mother, and she agreed that I should give it a try and let’s see how it would go,” she said.
That decision soon took Sefa from the university environment into the professional recording studio.
She recalled feeling nervous when she first arrived at the studio and encountered several established musicians. The situation was particularly intimidating because she was new to the industry and the only woman among the group.
“I went to the studio and I saw a couple of artistes there. That’s the first time I saw them, so I was so nervous, and I was the only woman among them,” she recounted.
Sefa was later asked to record a song with Ghanaian musician Epixode. She said the people around her recognised that she was inexperienced in the music business and supported her throughout the session.
“I was asked to record a song with Epixode, and luckily for me, they helped me a lot because they realised I’m new in the industry,” she explained.
The recording session eventually became the moment that changed everything.
According to Sefa, her vocal performance impressed the team and demonstrated that she had the ability to pursue music professionally.
“After they realised I could sing well, that’s when the signing conversation came in,” she added.
What started as a message on Instagram while Sefa was focused on her university education eventually became the opportunity that opened the door to her professional music career.

The Ghanaian music star headlined the 12,500-capacity venue on Saturday, August 15, in what became a major international moment for Ghanaian music.
Rather than simply presenting another concert, Stonebwoy used the occasion to showcase Ghanaian identity on a global stage. His arrival featured the Ghana flag and the Independence Arch projected across the stage, setting the tone for a night centred on Ghanaian culture and Afrodancehall.

Performing at a venue with a history of hosting international stars such as Beyoncé, Madonna, Prince and Burna Boy places the BHIM FEST brand in a new international space.

Lil Win Takes Aim at Actors Guild Presidency, Eyes Contest with Van Vicker
Veteran Ghanaian actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, has announced his decision to contest the presidency of the Ghana Actors Guild, potentially setting up a keenly watched election battle with fellow actor Van Vicker.
Lil Win made his intentions known during an interview with Poku 1 TV, shared on August 13, 2026. He confirmed that he had decided to enter the race and disclosed that he had already tasked someone with picking up the nomination forms on his behalf.
“Let it be known to all Ghanaians that I will be vying for the position of Actors’ Guild president. I’ve already delegated someone to pick up the forms for me.”
His declaration comes at a time when his relationship with Van Vicker appears strained. Only days earlier, Lil Win stated that he would no longer work with Van Vicker, alleging that his colleague had repeatedly declined movie roles and failed to communicate with him ahead of scheduled productions.
The decision to contest the Guild presidency has therefore sparked interest within the Ghanaian film industry, particularly because Van Vicker has also been linked to the leadership race.
Lil Win, however, has dismissed suggestions that his decision to contest is aimed at challenging or undermining Van Vicker personally.
The latest development follows the resolution of a long-running leadership dispute within the Ghana Actors Guild.
In January 2026, a court ruled that the tenure of former Guild president Sammy Fiscian had ended in 2017. The court subsequently directed Van Vicker to compile a new membership register to pave the way for fresh elections.
Beyond the leadership contest, Lil Win has outlined some of the initiatives he would pursue if elected president.
One of his major proposals is the establishment of a dedicated streaming platform for Ghanaian films. According to the actor, many local filmmakers currently have limited options for distributing their productions, with most relying on platforms such as YouTube and DStv.
“A lot of filmmakers do not have dedicated platforms to share their movies on. Most local movies are now on YouTube and on DStv, which gives very limited options.”
He believes a locally focused streaming service could give Ghanaian filmmakers greater control over their content while creating additional opportunities to earn revenue from their productions.
Lil Win also revealed that he would explore international investment opportunities to finance the proposed platform, including potential support from Dubai and other Arab countries.
“Possibly, I will seek investment from Dubai or the Arab countries to help build a sustainable platform for the movie industry.”
With Lil Win now declaring his intention to contest, the upcoming Ghana Actors Guild elections could become a closely followed contest, particularly if Van Vicker also formally enters the race.
The election is expected to determine the next leadership of the Guild as the association seeks to move forward from years of internal disagreements and establish a new direction for Ghana’s film industry.
