GH¢50 Million Bail? NPP Demands Answers Over Dennis Aboagye’s EOCO Arrest
The former Western North Regional Minister, Joojo Rocky Obeng, has questioned the circumstances surrounding the arrest and bail conditions of New Patriotic Party (NPP) member Dennis Aboagye, describing the GH¢50 million bail requirement as excessive.
Speaking on the matter with Maurice Otoo of Kpd online at the premise of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), Mr. Obeng argued that law-abiding citizens who cooperate with state investigative bodies should be treated fairly under the law, including being considered for self-recognizance bail where appropriate.
According to him, Dennis Aboagye had consistently responded to invitations from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and had been cooperative throughout the investigation on his alleged charges.
“If someone is a law-abiding citizen and is involved in an offence, the law can grant him self-cognisance bail,” he stated, questioning why Aboagye was arrested at the airport despite his cooperation with investigators.
Mr. Obeng also expressed concern over the bail terms imposed on the former government official, asking why a GH¢50 million bail bond with three sureties was deemed necessary.
“We are all worried as NPP members and his loved ones,” he said, adding that efforts were underway to help satisfy the bail conditions and secure Aboagye’s release.
Dennis Aboagye was arrested by EOCO on Sunday, July 12, 2026 at the Accra International Airport upon his arrival from overseas.
According to sources, Aboagye was given a stop order from EOCO to bar him from travelling overseas due to investigation surrounding him on the alleged Ghc 55 million financial loss to the state but he refuted.
On Monday, July 13, the anti-graft agency granted him a bail set at GH¢50 million with three sureties.
As of Tuesday, July 14, 2026, his legal team had reportedly been unable to meet the bail conditions, leaving him in EOCO custody pending the fulfillment of the bail terms.
The case has sparked debate within political circles, with some NPP members questioning whether the bail conditions are proportionate and calling for greater transparency in the handling of the matter.

Self-Serving Research Favouring NPP – IERPP Survey Dismissed as Biased, Mahama’s Achievements Defended
A strong rebuttal has been mounted by Dr. Samuel Ayeh, a presidential aide and government spokesperson, against the latest IERPP survey, with critics describing the findings as a “self-serving” exercise that allegedly reflects the political leanings of its researchers rather than an objective assessment of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
Speaking via a zoom interview on Kessben TV’s Digest, Dr. Samuel Ayeh, insisted the research findings represent the personal observations of the researchers and should not be treated as an independent verdict on the government’s performance.
He further alleged that the survey’s reported 49% rating reflects the interests of individuals who are “NPP-prone members,” arguing that the findings must be interrogated irrespective of the intellectual credentials or political affiliations of those behind the study.
The response also challenges comments attributed to Prof. Isaac Boadi, insisting that the government has made significant strides in the energy sector, the commissioning of a gold refinery led by the Finance Minister Casiel Ato Forson and Sammy Gyamfi.
He argued that although President Mahama did not provide specific timelines for some flagship projects, those initiatives were captured in the government’s plans and are being implemented.
He further claimed that the President has fulfilled his promise to restore the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), describing the refinery as “booming” while revealing that discussions are underway to operationalise another state-owned refinery.
Again he credited the government with paying approximately US$1.4 billion in legacy debt to stabilise the electricity sector, while highlighting ongoing investments in renewable energy and broader infrastructure improvements.
Concluding the response, Dr. Ayeh described the IERPP survey as a politically motivated exercise intended to favour the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“I will leave the judgment to the general public to juxtapose the President’s achievements in one and a half years of his government to the former state of the country,” he concluded.

Ghanaians Are Fed Up With NDC and NPP — UP Backs Merger With Kennedy Agyapong’s Base Movement
The United Party (UP), led by Alan Kyerematen, has expressed support for ongoing discussions to merge with Kennedy Agyapong’s Base Movement, describing the move as a step toward building a formidable third political force in Ghana.
Speaking on the issue via a zoom interview on Kessben Maakye show in Accra, UP Communications Director Solomon Owusu said conversations are ongoing, although questions remain over who would lead the merged movement if an agreement is reached.
He stressed that despite differences in leadership styles, both Alan Kyerematen and Kennedy Agyapong share the common vision of putting “Ghana First.”
According to Owusu, many Ghanaians have become disillusioned with both the NDC and NPP, making it necessary to establish a strong third force capable of offering a credible alternative.
He argued that while the two major parties often campaign on manifesto promises that prove difficult to achieve, UP has a clear policy direction through its Ghana Transformation Plan (GTP).
Owusu also maintained that the role of government is to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive rather than directly running businesses.
He further criticized Joseph Osei Yeboah, accusing him of making irresponsible comments and saying such conduct should not be encouraged in Ghana’s political landscape.

Canceling Zoomlion Contract Was Reckless and Unsubstantiated – Andy Kankam Slams Government Over Accra Flood Crisis
Managing Editor of the Informer, Andy Kankam, has strongly criticized the government’s handling of the recent flooding in Accra, describing the decision to terminate Zoomlion Ghana Limited’s sanitation contract as “reckless and unsubstantiated.”
Speaking on the aftermath of the devastating floods on Kessben Maakye show in Accra, Kankam argued that the government’s response has failed to address the root causes of the disaster, insisting that the GHS150 million allocated for flood-affected communities is inadequate.
According to him, the President should have consulted engineers and technical experts before announcing relief measures to determine the cost of expanding drainage systems and creating effective flood channels, rather than relying on political decisions.
He also questioned the process that led to the release of the relief funds, asking what consultations were undertaken before the government approved nearly GHS200 million for flood victims.
Kankam further lamented the worsening sanitation situation in the capital, claiming that heaps of refuse remain uncollected because Zoomlion no longer has a contract to clean parts of the city.
He challenged authorities to identify which company currently has the capacity to replace Zoomlion’s nationwide sanitation operations, arguing that the contract termination has contributed to choked drains and poor waste management.
The media executive maintained that flood prevention requires long-term engineering solutions and effective sanitation management, rather than emergency political interventions after disasters occur.
