Jury Orders Chris Brown to Pay Nearly $13 Million After Housekeeper Is Mauled by Dog

Published

on

A Los Angeles jury has ordered singer Chris Brown to pay nearly $13 million in damages after finding him liable in a lawsuit filed by his former housekeeper, who was severely injured in a dog attack at his California home in 2020.

The verdict followed a two-week trial in which jurors ruled that Brown and his company, Black Pyramid LLC, were negligent after Maria Avila was attacked by Hades, a 200-pound Caucasian Shepherd kept at Brown’s residence in Tarzana, California.

According to the ruling, Maria Avila was awarded $12.9 million in damages for the life-changing injuries she suffered. Her sister, Patricia Avila, who witnessed the attack while working at the property, received $885,000 for emotional distress. Maria’s husband, Oscar Olivo, was also awarded $50,000.

Maria Avila’s attorney, Michael C. Murphy Jr., welcomed the verdict, describing it as long-awaited justice after more than five years of legal proceedings. He said he was pleased that the family had finally received accountability for what they endured.

During the trial, Brown argued that the dog was kept solely for security purposes and was not his personal pet. He also testified that he had previously warned Maria and Patricia not to go outside unless security personnel were present because of the dogs. However, both women denied receiving such a warning, adding that language barriers would have made such a conversation difficult.

Jurors also heard testimony that after the attack, Brown left the property instead of calling emergency services or assisting the injured housekeeper. Evidence presented in court suggested he drove away for several hours because he feared attracting media attention, leaving employees to contact first responders.

Maria Avila told the court that the attack left her with permanent facial and arm injuries. She underwent multiple surgeries, including skin grafts taken from her abdomen to reconstruct her left arm. Despite treatment, she continues to experience limited mobility and has been unable to return to work as a housekeeper.

She also testified that the traumatic experience has left her suffering from post-traumatic stress, making it difficult for her to be around dogs or resume her previous occupation.

Her daughter told the jury that the incident dramatically changed her mother’s life, saying she had become withdrawn and no longer enjoyed social activities. She explained that Maria avoids public gatherings, dislikes having photographs taken, and has lost the confidence she once had.

Brown also testified during the trial, saying he heard the dog growling while preparing to shower and rushed outside, where he found Maria lying on the ground covered in blood. He admitted the scene shocked him and said his manager advised him to leave before emergency responders arrived, a decision he attributed to concerns over intense media attention.

The verdict was delivered just days after Brown launched his co-headlining U.S. stadium tour with Usher, which includes two scheduled performances at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles later this year.

Lil Win Takes Aim at Actors Guild Presidency, Eyes Contest with Van Vicker

Published

on

Veteran Ghanaian actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, has announced his decision to contest the presidency of the Ghana Actors Guild, potentially setting up a keenly watched election battle with fellow actor Van Vicker.

Lil Win made his intentions known during an interview with Poku 1 TV, shared on August 13, 2026. He confirmed that he had decided to enter the race and disclosed that he had already tasked someone with picking up the nomination forms on his behalf.

“Let it be known to all Ghanaians that I will be vying for the position of Actors’ Guild president. I’ve already delegated someone to pick up the forms for me.”

His declaration comes at a time when his relationship with Van Vicker appears strained. Only days earlier, Lil Win stated that he would no longer work with Van Vicker, alleging that his colleague had repeatedly declined movie roles and failed to communicate with him ahead of scheduled productions.

The decision to contest the Guild presidency has therefore sparked interest within the Ghanaian film industry, particularly because Van Vicker has also been linked to the leadership race.

Lil Win, however, has dismissed suggestions that his decision to contest is aimed at challenging or undermining Van Vicker personally.

The latest development follows the resolution of a long-running leadership dispute within the Ghana Actors Guild.

In January 2026, a court ruled that the tenure of former Guild president Sammy Fiscian had ended in 2017. The court subsequently directed Van Vicker to compile a new membership register to pave the way for fresh elections.

Beyond the leadership contest, Lil Win has outlined some of the initiatives he would pursue if elected president.

One of his major proposals is the establishment of a dedicated streaming platform for Ghanaian films. According to the actor, many local filmmakers currently have limited options for distributing their productions, with most relying on platforms such as YouTube and DStv.

“A lot of filmmakers do not have dedicated platforms to share their movies on. Most local movies are now on YouTube and on DStv, which gives very limited options.”

He believes a locally focused streaming service could give Ghanaian filmmakers greater control over their content while creating additional opportunities to earn revenue from their productions.

Lil Win also revealed that he would explore international investment opportunities to finance the proposed platform, including potential support from Dubai and other Arab countries.

“Possibly, I will seek investment from Dubai or the Arab countries to help build a sustainable platform for the movie industry.”

With Lil Win now declaring his intention to contest, the upcoming Ghana Actors Guild elections could become a closely followed contest, particularly if Van Vicker also formally enters the race.

The election is expected to determine the next leadership of the Guild as the association seeks to move forward from years of internal disagreements and establish a new direction for Ghana’s film industry.

DJ KA became the subject of intense public discussion on social media after the alleged private video surfaced online, attracting widespread reactions and criticism.

Speaking in a video shared on X on August 14, 2026, the journalist said the incident, despite the negative attention and derogatory comments directed at him, pushed him to make important decisions and remain focused on his personal goals.

According to DJ KA, the controversy ultimately gave him the motivation and opportunity to complete his studio project within a short period.

He disclosed that he had finished building the studio and would soon invite people to see it.

“I am done building my studio, and I will invite you very soon. Through the issue that happened, I have been able to finish my studio within two to three weeks,” he said.

DJ KA explained that while the situation subjected him to name-calling and harsh comments, he refused to allow the controversy to derail his plans.

Oteele’s Wife Gifty Nana Afriyie Denies Being Woman in Leaked Video, Appeals for Support for Orphanage

Published

on

Gifty Nana Afriyie, the wife of Kumawood actor Oteele, has rejected claims that she is the woman featured in an alleged leaked private video involving her husband.

The clarification follows the circulation of a video on social media which reportedly shows Oteele in an intimate moment with another woman. The footage has generated widespread discussion online, with many social media users speculating about the identity of the woman seen in it.

In a video shared on her TikTok page, Gifty Nana Afriyie addressed the speculation and explained that some people who do not personally know her had mistakenly assumed that she was the woman in the footage.

She urged people to look carefully at the woman in the video and compare her appearance with hers, particularly her complexion.

According to Gifty, the woman shown in the footage is light-skinned, whereas she does not have the same complexion.

“The particular reason I am here is that some people who do not know me well think that I am the one in the video. No, please, I am not the one in the video. There is a light on me. Look at my skin colour and hand. I am not light-skinned,” she said.

Gifty, who also oversees an orphanage home, became emotional while speaking about how the controversy could affect the children under her care.

She apologised on behalf of herself and her family and appealed to families who have entrusted their children to the orphanage not to lose confidence in her because of the incident.

The visibly emotional wife of the actor said she remains committed to caring for the children and promised to continue serving as a good mentor and role model to them.

She also appealed to God for the strength and support needed to help the children grow and reach their full potential.

“I plead with families not to lose confidence in me. I will be a good mentor to the children. No family should come to take their orphans from the home because I love these children. I ask God to give me the strength and all the help I need to take care of them and help them reach the heights that will make my soul feel fulfilled,” she added.

The controversy has also drawn attention to Oteele, who has been at the centre of social media discussions following the emergence of the alleged private video.

The actor has described the situation as painful and embarrassing, particularly because of the intense public reaction and criticism that followed the video’s circulation.

According to Oteele, he had to console himself and find the strength to cope with the situation despite the insults and criticism directed at him.

He acknowledged that members of the public have the right to form opinions about him based on what they have seen, but appealed to people to remember that everybody has weaknesses and is capable of making mistakes.

Reflecting on the emotional toll the controversy has taken on him, Oteele said:

“If I don’t console myself, I will die. For someone like me who loves food, I can’t even eat. It is not easy. If insults could kill, I would have died by now. Some people are happy, while others are sad, but through all this, I have seen my enemies.”

The latest controversy has placed the actor and his family under intense public scrutiny, while Gifty’s emotional response has also attracted sympathy from social media users.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Oteele has since spoken publicly about the matter and discussed the possibility of approaching his wife with respected elders as the family seeks to deal with the situation.

Ramsey Nouah recounts unusual encounter with female fan at Ghana movie premiere

Published

on

Nollywood actor and filmmaker Ramsey Nouah has opened up about an unusual encounter he had with a female fan during a movie premiere in Ghana.

Speaking on Angel FM in Kumasi, the veteran actor said the woman approached him, hugged him and took photographs with him before secretly slipping an unidentified item into the pocket of his jacket.

Ramsey Nouah explained that he initially thought the item was a handkerchief, but later discovered that it was something else.

He deliberately refused to disclose exactly what the woman had left in his pocket, leaving listeners to make their own guesses.

However, guests on the programme shouted that the item was the woman’s panties, a reaction that made the actor laugh.

Recounting the incident, Ramsey Nouah said:

“She walked up to me, she hugged me, we took pictures, and she left it in my jacket, and I took it out, I thought it was a handkerchief; it wasn’t a handkerchief. I will leave the rest for your imagination.”

The actor also discussed how his wife of about 27 years reacts to the romantic and intimate scenes he performs with other actresses in movies.

According to Ramsey Nouah, his wife has become used to seeing him kiss his co-stars because she understands that such scenes are part of his profession.

He revealed that she sometimes teases him about his kissing skills, joking that he is no longer as good as he used to be.

He quoted his wife as saying:

“Your woman needs to understand your work. I have been married to my wife for about 27 years. All the kisses and everything in movies, she is used to it. She used to tell me, ‘You are not kissing very well. You don’t do it anymore because you are not good anymore.’

Please Wait till Next Year – Lil Win Appeals to Ghanaians Over Private Videos

Published

on

Ghanaian Kumawood actor and filmmaker Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, has appealed to anyone planning to release private videos to hold on until next year.

The actor appealed for renewed conversations on social media over the circulation of alleged private videos involving some personalities.

Lil Win explained that private videos that surface online often generate intense public interest and can quickly dominate conversations across social media platforms. He noted that such developments could make it difficult for other entertainment-related activities and projects to attract the attention they deserve.

According to the actor, he is particularly concerned about the possible impact of another viral private video on the promotion of his upcoming movie, A Journey to Africa. He said considerable resources had already been committed to the project and appealed to anyone who may be in possession of private footage to delay its release until next year.

His request was essentially for people to allow him and his team to have their moment in promoting the movie without another controversy taking over social media.

Lil Win also used the opportunity to encourage people who have recently found themselves at the centre of private-video controversies. Among those he mentioned was Kumawood actor Oteele, whose alleged private videos have recently sparked widespread online discussion.

The actor urged Oteele and others affected by similar incidents to remain strong and not allow the intense public attention and commentary to break them down.

The comments come against the backdrop of growing concerns about the circulation of private material on social media. Once such content is uploaded or shared, it can spread rapidly, reaching large audiences within a short period and subjecting the individuals involved to widespread public scrutiny.

Lil Win’s appeal, although linked to the promotion of A Journey to Africa, has also drawn attention to the broader consequences of sharing private material without the consent of the people involved.

He therefore called for patience, asking those who may be holding such footage to wait until next year before releasing anything, as he seeks to keep public attention focused on his upcoming movie.
