The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved the final review of Ghana’s US$3 billion Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme, marking the successful completion of the bailout programme introduced in May 2023 following the country’s 2022 economic crisis.

The approval unlocks a final disbursement of approximately US$371 million to the Bank of Ghana, bringing total disbursements under the programme to US$3 billion.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the successful conclusion of the programme reflects Ghana’s significant progress in restoring macroeconomic stability through fiscal discipline, lower inflation, stronger external reserves, and the implementation of key structural reforms.

With the ECF programme now concluded, Ghana will transition to a 36-month Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI) with the IMF. Unlike the ECF, the PCI is a non-financing arrangement designed to support the government’s ongoing reform agenda and reinforce confidence in the country’s economic policies without providing additional financial assistance.

The government expressed gratitude to the people of Ghana for their resilience, patience, and support throughout the implementation of the reform programme.

It also thanked the IMF Executive Board, IMF Management and Staff, development partners, civil society organisations, and the private sector for their continued support during the programme.

The Ministry of Finance reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the gains made under the ECF programme and pursuing reforms aimed at building a stronger, more resilient, and more prosperous economy for all Ghanaians.

The government’s Women’s Development Bank has emerged as one of the lowest-rated flagship policies in a new nationwide survey conducted by Global InfoAnalytics, with respondents assigning the initiative an average score of 4.6 out of 10.

The rating suggests that although the policy remains one of the government’s key programmes aimed at supporting women entrepreneurs and businesses, many Ghanaians are yet to fully embrace its expected impact and implementation.

The findings were published in the Longitudinal National Telephone Tracking Poll – Baseline, conducted from July 15 to July 24, 2026, involving 7,761 registered voters across Ghana’s 16 regions.

Respondents were asked to rate six major government policies, with the Women’s Development Bank recording 4.6 out of 10.

The initiative ranked as the second-lowest rated policy, ahead of only the 24-Hour Economy, which received a score of 4.2 out of 10.

The ranking of the policies was as follows:

• No-Academic-Fee Policy – 6.1/10
• $10 Billion Big Push – 6.0/10
• Tax Reliefs – 5.8/10
• National Apprenticeship & Adwumawura Programme – 5.5/10
• Women’s Development Bank – 4.6/10
• 24-Hour Economy – 4.2/10

The results indicate that the Women’s Development Bank has not yet gained the same level of public approval as some other government initiatives measured in the survey.

Despite the lower rating for some policies, the poll showed that President John Dramani Mahama continues to enjoy significant public support.

According to Global InfoAnalytics:

• 72% of respondents approved of President Mahama’s performance.
• 21% disapproved of his performance.
• 7% had no opinion.

The survey also revealed that 60% of respondents believe Ghana is moving in the right direction, while 53% said their living standards have improved compared to the previous year.

Longitudinal National Telephone Tracking Poll – Baseline was conducted through Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI) involving 7,761 registered voters from all 16 regions of Ghana.

The project is designed to track changes in public opinion over time, with the same respondents expected to be contacted every two months.

The survey reported a 99% confidence level with a margin of error of ±1.5%.

JG Resources Limited has petitioned the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate Goldline Mining Ghana Limited over allegations of fraud involving the supply of gold and the alleged failure to refund millions of cedis paid for transactions.

According to the petition addressed to EOCO’s Executive Director, JG Resources claims it entered into an agreement with Goldline Mining Ghana Limited on May 16, 2025, for the purchase of gold to be delivered to its principal, Unigold Trading LLC, based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The petition alleges that after discussions with Emmanuel Ababio, identified as the controlling person behind Goldline Mining Ghana Limited, payment was made into the company’s Access Bank account for an initial supply of 29 kilograms of gold.

However, JG Resources claims the company delivered only 20 kilograms, leaving 9 kilograms outstanding, while assuring the petitioner that the remaining quantity would be supplied during the next transaction.

The petitioner further states that another payment was made for the supply of 10 kilograms of gold, with the understanding that the outstanding 9 kilograms from the first transaction would be added to the new order.

According to the petition, Goldline Mining subsequently supplied only 7.8 kilograms out of the agreed 10 kilograms, while the outstanding 9 kilograms from the earlier transaction was also not delivered, leaving a total of 11.2 kilograms of gold allegedly undelivered.

JG Resources further claims that Emmanuel Ababio repeatedly assured the company that the outstanding gold would be supplied, but the timelines he provided consistently elapsed without any delivery being made.

The petition also alleges that the company was persuaded to make additional cash payments totalling GH₵330,000 to Emmanuel Ababio to facilitate the transportation and shipment of 20 kilograms of gold to the petitioner’s principal in Dubai. Despite receiving the funds, the petition states that the shipment never materialised.

According to JG Resources, it believes Goldline Mining Ghana Limited never intended to fulfil the agreed quantities of gold but rather entered into the arrangement to obtain funds from the company.

The petitioner further alleges that the suspect has refused to refund the money for the undelivered gold. It claims Emmanuel Ababio has since relocated to the Ashanti Region, where he has allegedly spent several months assuring the company that he is taking steps to settle the outstanding obligation.

The petition also claims Goldline Mining deliberately supplied smaller quantities of gold to encourage JG Resources to release additional funds for further purchases.

Describing itself as a victim of fraud, JG Resources has called on EOCO to urgently investigate the matter and assist in recovering funds allegedly held by Goldline Mining Ghana Limited.

The petition was signed by Kwaku Appiah Yeboah, Director of JG Resources Limited, who appealed to the anti-graft agency for immediate intervention.

The EOCO Declares Emmanuel Ababio Wanted notice has been issued by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), which is seeking public assistance to locate a suspect linked to alleged offences of defrauding by false pretences.

In a public announcement, EOCO has called on members of the public to provide credible information that could assist in locating Ababio.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is encouraged to report to the EOCO Head Office, which is located adjacent to the Old Parliament House on Barnes Road in Accra, any of the agency’s regional offices, or the nearest police station.

EOCO has also provided dedicated contact numbers for confidential tips. Individuals can call 0579723314 or 0579709066 to share any information that may aid in the investigation.

The agency stated that Emmanuel Ababio is wanted in connection with offences of defrauding by false pretenses and urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement to facilitate his arrest. Nobody is telling the current NDC government not to go after corrupt or criminal individuals in the past NPP government. No well-meaning Ghanaian is against accountability.

If anyone, regardless of their political colour, caused financial loss to the state, stole public funds, or abused their office, the law must deal with them. That is what the rule of law demands. Ghanaians voted for accountability and they deserve to see it.But accountability must not become political persecution.

If we are truly serious about fighting corruption, then the principle must be universal. Anybody who is corrupt must face the law – be it an NDC government official, an NPP member, or any other person. Corruption has no political colour. A thief is a thief, whether they wear green, black, red or white.

What Ghanaians do not want to see is selective justice. We do not want a system where you are prosecuted because you are NPP, but protected because you are NDC. That is not justice, that is witch-hunting. And witch-hunting does not build a nation, it only deepens division and makes the next government also come after its opponents.

Go after the corrupt. Retrieve the looted funds. Jail those who deserve to be jailed. But do it with clean hands. Do it through due process. Do it with evidence, not propaganda. And let the same energy be applied to anyone within your own government who goes astray. That is how you will earn the respect of Ghanaians. Let this serve as a clear and unmistakable warning to every National Democratic Congress appointee occupying public office today. Power is transient. It does not last forever. The power you wield today is not your personal property – it is a public trust given to you by the people of Ghana.

Any act of corruption, criminality, abuse of office, or looting of state resources WILL be accounted for. Ghanaians are watching, we are not asleep. Every contract you inflate, every cedi you steal, every state land you grab, and every abuse of power you engage in is being recorded. Do not be deceived by the praise singers around you. Do not think that political power will shield you forever. The same law you are using today will be used against you tomorrow. The same institutions you are weakening today will be strengthened to hold you accountable.

History has taught us this lesson over and over again. Those who looted before you, where are they now? Those who thought they were untouchable, how did they end?If you are in office to serve, serve with honesty and humility. If you are in office to enrich yourself, to punish your opponents, and to loot what belongs to all of us, know this – your day of reckoning is coming.
