A leading figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has firmly distanced himself from a video circulating on social media that portrays an apology on his behalf over the disturbances that marred the suspended NPP Afigya Sekyere East Constituency elections.

In a press statement issued on July 14, 2026, Baffoe described the video as a “carefully choreographed” production and insisted that he neither authorised nor endorsed anyone to apologise on his behalf.

According to him, the video features the NPP Deputy Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, NPP National Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi)and Madam Mavis Nkansah Boadu, who appear to convey what he says has been falsely portrayed as an apology over the events that unfolded during Sunday’s constituency elections.

Baffoe stressed that he had no involvement in the production of the video and rejected suggestions that it represented his views.

> “I neither authorized, requested, endorsed nor commissioned any individual or group to apologize on my behalf. Any attempt to create such an impression is false, deceptive, mischievous and a calculated distortion of the truth,” he stated.

The outspoken politician disclosed that earlier on Tuesday, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie visited him after being assigned by the Minority Leader to explore possible avenues for resolving the impasse arising from the suspended constituency election.

However, Baffoe said he made his position “abundantly clear” during that meeting, insisting that he would not apologise to what he described as a “self-acclaimed political chief” over matters in which he believes he acted within his legal and constitutional rights.

He further noted that he made it clear he saw no justification for offering an apology and would not permit anyone to do so on his behalf.

Expressing surprise over the emergence of the video shortly after the meeting, Baffoe argued that it created the false impression that an apology had been issued with his approval.

> “That purported representation does not reflect my position, my instructions or my authority,” he said.

He urged the public to regard the circulating video as an initiative undertaken solely by those featured in it, adding that it was neither commissioned nor sanctioned by him.

“If others have chosen to pursue their own political objectives or personal interests through such public engagements, they must accept full responsibility for their own words and actions,” the statement added.

Reaffirming his stance, Baffoe said he would not allow himself to be used as “a pawn in anyone’s political calculations or public relations exercise.”

He maintained that his convictions, principles and integrity were not for sale and could not be compromised to satisfy the ambitions or interests of any individual or group.

He also criticised attempts to manipulate public perception through what he described as “carefully staged optics,” saying Ghanaians deserve honesty rather than political theatre.

Baffoe pledged to continue pursuing every legitimate avenue to protect his rights and defend the democratic values of the NPP.

He further called on party faithful, supporters, members of the media and the general public to disregard any suggestion that the circulating video reflects his position or was produced with his knowledge, consent or approval.

“The truth cannot be manufactured, and history will judge every actor by the role they chose to play,” the statement concluded.

A 22-year-old law student, Nana Agyeiwaa Baffoe-Bonnie Michaels, popularly known as Okordie, has officially announced her intention to contest the Manhyia South parliamentary seat in Ghana’s 2028 general election on the ticket of the newly established Base Movement Ghana.

Michaels made the announcement during a press briefing in Kumasi on Monday, July 13, 2026, where she presented herself as a youthful leader determined to address the challenges facing residents of the constituency.

Explaining her motivation for entering politics, she said her personal experiences have given her a deep understanding of the struggles ordinary Ghanaians face and inspired her to seek public office.

“I understand the struggles of the people because I have lived through them. It is time for a new kind of leadership that listens, serves and delivers,” she stated.

The aspiring legislator said her campaign would focus on addressing youth unemployment, poor road infrastructure, sanitation challenges, inadequate healthcare funding and the digital divide affecting many communities in Manhyia South.

She also outlined plans to attract investment into the constituency, create employment opportunities for young people and empower women entrepreneurs through practical business support initiatives.

Michaels explained that she chose to contest on the ticket of Base Movement Ghana because the movement’s values align with her vision of people-centred leadership and national development.

“I proudly identify with Base Movement Ghana because it is committed to putting Ghana first, empowering citizens, promoting accountability and creating opportunities for all,” she said.

In addition, she pledged to work closely with traditional authorities, religious leaders and other stakeholders, stressing that collaboration would be key to achieving sustainable development in the constituency.

If she secures the nomination of Base Movement Ghana and contests the 2028 parliamentary election, Michaels would become one of the youngest parliamentary candidates in Ghana’s recent democratic history, highlighting the increasing participation of young people in the country’s political process.

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has revoked the Dedicated Electronic Money Issuer (DEMI) Licence of Zeepay Ghana Ltd with immediate effect, citing multiple regulatory breaches and the company’s persistent failure to comply with directives issued by the central bank.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, the Bank of Ghana said the revocation was carried out pursuant to Section 13 of the Payment Systems and Services Act, 2019 (Act 987).

According to the BoG, the decision followed repeated violations of regulatory requirements and the terms and conditions governing Zeepay’s DEMI licence. The central bank stated that the company’s continued non-compliance posed risks to customers, payment service providers, and the broader payment ecosystem.

The Bank of Ghana outlined two major reasons for the licence revocation.

First, it said Zeepay issued electronic money without maintaining the required corresponding cash backing, resulting in a negative variance. The bank noted that the company failed to address the resulting risk exposure to customers and the national payment system.

Secondly, the BoG said Zeepay failed to comply with several regulatory directives, including instructions to inject sufficient funds to fully back the electronic money balances of customers, agents, and merchants. The company also failed to comply with an order to wind down its electronic money issuance business.

The central bank stressed that Zeepay’s continued operation under its DEMI licence constituted a threat to the stability of Ghana’s payment system, making the revocation necessary.
