The Ghana Police Service has directed owners and operators of concrete mixer trucks to suspend operations on roads within Accra and Tema from Friday, August 28 to Sunday, August 30, 2026.

The three-day restriction follows an engagement between the Police, under the auspices of the National Security Secretariat, and owners and operators of transit mixer trucks on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

The meeting was led by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and focused on road safety, compliance with traffic regulations and concerns over the impact of concrete mixer trucks on road users and road infrastructure.

During the engagement, stakeholders raised concerns about the spillage of concrete and other construction materials onto roads by mixer trucks.

According to the Police, such debris can obstruct traffic, create serious hazards for motorists and other road users, and contribute to damage to road surfaces.

Operators were therefore urged to ensure that concrete or other materials are not discharged or left on roads during transportation and other operations.

The Police said concrete mixer trucks will not be permitted to operate on roads within Accra and Tema from Friday, August 28 through Sunday, August 30.

The temporary restriction is intended to allow authorities to facilitate the clearing and cleaning of road surfaces affected by concrete and other materials.

The Police further warned that any concrete mixer truck found moving in breach of the directive would be subject to appropriate enforcement action in accordance with the law.

The Service has also directed that, during the suspension period, concrete mixer trucks are not to undertake delivery operations within Accra.

The engagement brought together representatives from the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ghana Highways Authority, as well as owners and operators of concrete mixer trucks.

The Police said the engagement forms part of efforts to improve road safety, ensure compliance with road traffic regulations and protect road infrastructure.

The directive was contained in a press release dated August 27, 2026, signed by Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Director-General of Public Affairs.

The temporary restriction has also been independently reported by Ghanaian media.

New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Treasurer, Dr Charles Dwamena, popularly known as Dr China, has officially filed his nomination to contest the position of General Secretary in the party’s 2026 national executive elections.

Dr Dwamena is campaigning on his WILD+S General Agenda, a five-pillar vision aimed at strengthening the party’s welfare system, improving communication, promoting research and digital solutions, enforcing leadership discipline, and establishing legally backed party security structures.

His bid comes as the NPP prepares to reorganise its structures and rebuild its grassroots base ahead of the 2028 presidential election, in which the party hopes to return to power with its flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

The WILD+S agenda forms the core of Dr China’s campaign and sets out his proposed strategy for rebuilding a stronger, more united and better-organised NPP.

The “W” represents Welfare, with Dr Dwamena proposing improved benefits and support systems for party members. As part of this pillar, he has proposed a Business Incubation Fund to assist eligible NPP members who wish to establish or expand businesses.

He has also proposed a group insurance policy to strengthen welfare support for members.

The “I” stands for Improved Communication, which focuses on developing proactive and effective communication channels to ensure party members remain informed, connected and actively involved in the affairs of the NPP.

The “L” represents Leveraging Research and Digital Solutions. Under this pillar, Dr China seeks to use research, technology and data-driven strategies to attract and empower young people while improving decision-making within the party.

The “D” stands for Discipline, with Dr Dwamena advocating responsible, accountable and disciplined leadership as a foundation for rebuilding the NPP.

The “S” represents Security, through which he proposes the reintroduction of party security structures through lawful means to protect members, offices, property and party activities while operating within Ghana’s legal framework.

According to Dr China, the WILD+S agenda will help create a disciplined, digitally empowered, research-driven and welfare-focused NPP capable of reconnecting with its grassroots and positioning itself strongly for the 2028 elections.

Addressing supporters at the NPP headquarters after submitting his nomination, Dr Dwamena said the next General Secretary must have the political maturity, organisational experience and leadership skills necessary to unite the party and strengthen its structures.

He said the position would be critical to helping the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, secure victory in the 2028 presidential election.

“Whoever occupies the office of the General Secretary going into the next general elections, to make Dr Mahamudu Bawumia successful and become the next president of the Republic of Ghana, that person must exhibit political maturity,” he stated.

Dr China also rejected what he described as armchair leadership, insisting that the next General Secretary must be actively engaged on the ground and maintain close contact with party structures and grassroots supporters.

“Certainly, the occupant of that office must not be an armchair General Secretary. This person must be someone who believes in teamwork,” he said.

Beyond his welfare proposals, Dr Dwamena said his mentorship programme would identify, develop and prepare young party members for future leadership positions.

He argued that empowering members economically and professionally would deepen their commitment to the party while creating a stronger pipeline of future leaders.

Dr China has further pledged to strengthen the NPP’s grassroots structures and deepen engagement with members at the constituency, electoral area and branch levels.

He believes a united, disciplined and well-organised party will be crucial to supporting Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign ahead of the 2028 presidential election.

He has therefore identified political maturity, teamwork, research-based decision-making, digital innovation and grassroots mobilisation as key elements of the NPP’s proposed reorganisation.

The NPP’s national executive elections are scheduled for October 3, 2026, with 50 nomination forms reportedly purchased by aspirants seeking various national executive positions.

Vetting of the aspirants is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 31, 2026, and end on September 3.

The outcome of the vetting is expected to be published on September 5, followed by the appeals process on September 6 and 7.

The NPP National Council and National Executive Committee are expected to meet on September 10, while the notice of poll is scheduled to be issued on September 14.

The party will subsequently go to the polls on October 3, 2026, to elect its next national executives.

The Parliament of Ghana has presented the Democracy Cup to the Police Administration ahead of the highly anticipated football match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak.

The Democracy Cup was received by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, from a parliamentary delegation led by the Clerk to Parliament, Mr Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror.

The presentation was made on behalf of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, as part of preparations for the historic sporting event, which is expected to bring together football supporters and stakeholders in a celebration of sportsmanship, national unity and democratic values.

Following the presentation, IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno assured Parliament and the general public of the Ghana Police Service’s full commitment to maintaining peace, safety and public order before, during and after the match.

He stressed that the Police would deploy personnel to safeguard both participants and spectators attending the event. According to the IGP, the security arrangements are intended to ensure that the match is conducted in a peaceful and orderly atmosphere.

The Police presence will also seek to facilitate the safe movement of supporters and other members of the public while preventing incidents that could undermine the spirit of the occasion.

The Democracy Cup match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak is scheduled to take place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Friday, August 28, 2026.

The encounter is expected to attract a large number of football fans, given the long-standing rivalry between the two most prominent clubs in Ghanaian football.

Beyond the football contest, the Democracy Cup is intended to promote unity, peaceful coexistence and democratic values, bringing the sporting community and public institutions together through football.

Authorities are urging all persons attending the match to conduct themselves responsibly and contribute to making the event a peaceful celebration of Ghana’s sporting culture and democratic values.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has activated the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) portal for the online capturing and uploading of candidates’ school selection data for the 2026 school placement exercise.

The directive, dated 24 August 2026, was issued by the GES Headquarters in Accra and addressed to all Regional Directors of Education.

According to the directive, the WAEC portal will be available from Monday, 24 August to Thursday, 27 August 2026, to enable Heads of Junior High Schools (JHSs) to capture and upload candidates’ selected schools for the 2026 placement exercise.

GES has instructed headteachers who have not yet completed the uploading of candidates’ school choices on the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) portal for the pre-testing exercise to complete the process by the close of work on Monday, 24 August 2026.

After completing the CSSPS pre-testing requirement, the schools are expected to proceed to the WAEC portal to capture and upload the candidates’ school selection data.

The designated portal is cass.waecinternetsolution.org, which is currently available for the school selection exercise.

GES explained that the WAEC portal has been configured to allow the same school ID and password to be used simultaneously on multiple computers.

The arrangement is intended to support schools with large numbers of candidates by allowing several computers to capture and upload information at the same time.

According to the Service, this facility will help schools complete the exercise in a timely and efficient manner within the stipulated period.

The GES has directed Metro, Municipal and District Directors of Education, together with Examination Coordinators, to closely supervise and monitor the exercise.

They are required to ensure that the data of all eligible candidates are duly captured, verified and submitted within the stipulated timeframe.

The supervision is expected to help minimise errors and ensure that candidates’ school choices are accurately recorded before submission.

Regional Directors of Education have also been instructed to communicate the directive to all concerned schools and officials within their respective jurisdictions.

They are expected to ensure strict compliance with the instructions and deadlines outlined by the GES.

The directive follows an earlier GES letter referenced GES/HQ/DG/494/2026, dated 18 August 2026, on the school selection and placement exercise.

The latest letter is referenced GES/S&ID/MSCL/2026/273 and was signed by Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instruction Division (Secondary), for the Director-General.

The four-day WAEC portal window closes on Thursday, 27 August 2026, after which schools are expected to have completed the capturing, verification and submission of the required school selection data.

The Savannah Regional Police Command has arrested two young men in connection with the alleged lynching of a resident at Daboya in the North Gonja District of the Savannah Region.

The suspects have been identified as Adjei Abdulai, 25, a carpenter, and Issah Mahama, 22, a student. Their arrest follows an investigation into a disturbing incident captured on video that has been circulating on social media.

According to a statement issued by the Savannah Regional Police Headquarters in Damongo on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, the victim, identified as Yibonwura, was allegedly accused of stealing sheanuts.

Preliminary investigations conducted by the police indicate that Yibonwura was severely assaulted during the incident. He subsequently died from injuries sustained in the attack.

Following the circulation of the video and subsequent police investigations, Adjei Abdulai and Issah Mahama were arrested and placed in police custody. They are currently assisting investigators as the police work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged lynching.

The police have also launched a manhunt for a third suspect, who is currently at large.

The Savannah Regional Police Command has assured the public that investigations will continue and that all persons found to have played a role in the incident will be identified and brought to justice.

The statement was signed by DCOP David K. Adipo, Regional Police Commander for the Savannah Region, who reiterated that investigations remain ongoing.

The incident has once again raised concerns about mob justice and the dangers of taking the law into one’s own hands, particularly when allegations of theft or other offences arise. Authorities continue to urge members of the public to report suspected criminal activity to the police rather than resorting to violence.
